Tipping the dealer is one of those nonmandatory but obvious things that you should do for the same reason that you tip the cocktail waitress or the blackjack dealer or the bartender or anyone else at the casino.
The reason you do it is because the people there are being paid, partly by the casino and partly by the customers to provide service and entertainment. I always tip when I win a hand in poker along the same lines as the poster before me. I tip the cocktail waitress that brings me my drink, the dealers at table games who give me royals in Pai Gow, it's all part of normal behavior.
When I won a couple of freeroll blackjack tournaments in Vegas I gave 10% to the dealers as a tip, to be divided. I don't know or care what others did, I felt it was deserved.
Have I ever not tipped? Sure. Sometimes you get a surly dealer. Maybe he or she's having a bad day but don't bring it to work when you're in the service environment.
