Do you say something Well I am risking yet another ban from a poker site, but probably not. Last time I quoted stats to make the point more and they reported this, this time I didn't because in all truth when this happens you don't need to look at stats you already know. sometimes, most of the time there are one or two or maybe more if your playing low stakes or just got lucky bad players on the table. With weakness you can exploit. In truth most players have weakness to be exploited ABC players which seem to be among the majority are easy to read and bluff, "bad players" who don't understand hand selection are harder to read but generally easy to exploit because you can see there bad play, eg they shove on an ace board u might fold AK against an ABC knowing they have two pair or trips you cant against Bad players who would do this with A2 off suit. There are good players who can represent different hands and play junk sometimes who often are mistaken for bad players when really there among the very best. But then there are the truly awful players, players who you know lose a lot very quickly, and these are the ones i talk to, these are the ones that have got me banned from several sites. I should say suspended as I got 24 and 48 hour bans not permeant bands. This not another bad beat rant. more a question on moral principal. You see they play any two cards j3 off suit flat calls a raised and called pot pre flop in limit holdem game with players to act behind him. post flop play was awful, practically willing to call down with any pair or anything. decided to limp in late middle position with A5 not a bad play if you raise with it to try and steal and can have position if called. But limping with A5 awful and of course I had the bigger ace and took them down when the ace hit. sure if they had raised I would have re raised anyway but they can't know this. So everything and i mean everything they do is wrong. So I told them when someone is playing 80% of there hands in a fixed limit full ring game and chasing long shot draws and calling down in multi way pots with any pair at all, It is clear. this is not a small time loser this is a big time loser. Most poker players relish this situation you encounter it rarely and most want to exploit it as much as possible. Well as I have already mentioned here before I once went broke lost everything I had I am now a winning player and take bad runs and bad beats badly but cope fine because I do make nearly twice as much on an hourly rate as i do in my day job, and remind myself of this in the bad times. But when I was broke and in bad debt I had very negative thoughts and almost did something stupid. thats well in the past now and can't happen again because I have bank roll management now and would get out permanently if i went on a long enough stretch without winning and it was clear i couldn't anymore. Still enough fish out there though, so wont happen. However these people I highly doubt have bank roll management and most probably do lose more then they can afford, and I just can't not say anything. I do tell them I think they have a problem I do tell them they should stop, I do try and talk sense into them. exploiting a bad player is one thing, exploiting an average player you can read is ok. However exploiting a truly awful reckless player, who clearly has a gambling problem who you know may consider suicide down the line or split there family up or suffer real badly without saying anything to them. I just can't do that. I don't show them any mercy in hands I don't for anyone and if i end up stacking them there not getting it back from, But i do warn them and i do try and talk sense into them and I know most don't. And I have had warnings from sites before I am worth $12000 a year in rake though $8000 after rake back and the likes, which is a lot more then players like this whom are likely to go broke and not return before they reach 3k in rake. Would they really permanently ban me? Would you say something do you think I should be saying something.

I hate anyone at my table berating the donkey and will spam the chat with the dot to get rid of it. When someone is tossing chips like birdseed I tell them nice hand when they luck out. I want them at my table for when I do get a hand. When they suck out on me great, I make a note and still say nothing, maybe nh, lol to get it back later.

re: Do you say something poker Its not really berating them though, as I said I don't do this with most fish just the ones who clearly have a problem and are losing way more then most people could realistically afford to quickly. It's more to do with trying to help them then berating though I do snap if I have been running bad and take a ridiculous bad beat.

Im not really sure what to think of this post. **Turn the chat off **Quit trying to help everyone at the table that doesnt "play" as well as you. **Take a break after a bad run or bad beat. If there's one thing that's really irritating at the table is the guy that takes it upon himself to be the "Table Police". Play your game and let others do the same.

I gather your concern is to help people who have a gambling problem, and a reluctance to clean them out? It's very hard to know when you're playing against someone who is spewing money they can't afford to lose. There are a lot of players who are simply having fun, and this form of fun isn't any more costly for them than an alternative form of fun - this is the way I thought of it when I played live poker - even though they're obv losing players doesn't mean they're going to the poor house because of it. Your scruples are respectable, but impractical I think. I certainly don't want to let every bad player know that they could be better players, esp the ones who don't want to become better players, and I can't tell which bad players can't afford to lose what they're losing.

I understand you wanting to help people you percieve as "throwing thier money away" from the point of view "been there done that". Although this is commendable it is not always a true reflection of the persons mindset. As previous posters have pointed out there are those players that play for fun and droppoing a couple of 100 dollars is not going to be a biggie to them. On the site I play on there is someone who regularly plays in the low stakes games aswell as a few of the large buyin tourneys etc. They are definately a loosing player. I ran into Q8o against KK (all in preflop) with this player and of cos they lucked out with a straight, lost it and commented "WTF? How could you call with that?". Thier reply was "I only play for fun". Acouple of weeks later I was surprised to be approached at one of our gaming events by a woman whose son always attends the event asking if I played on Piggs Peak with the nickname "Ratmantoo". I replied yes I did and she introduced herself as this player. I now understand her comment fully. To say they are very well off is an understatement and she plays online to keep herself busy. Loosing a couple of grand is no problem to them and is way better than sitting in the pub (she is a recovering alchoholic). She also has no inclination of trying to improve her game. This is probly a rare example and yes there are people with genuine problems out there, however it is impossible to help them all.

I had a hard time trying to understand what you were saying in your post... it sounds like you're angry that donks suck out on you with bad cards when you're ahead... well... that happens, not going to change. Percentage-wise, you're more likely to win anyways, so if you're winning most of the time, and getting sucked out on a little of the time (excluding bad beat runs, which BRM should help prevent,) it doesn't matter...? Dammit I've confused myself now.

This point was brought up recently in another post. Why is it that people with problems assume that everyone else in the world has the same problem? Its like an alcoholic preaching the dangers of alcohol. True, alcoholism is a serious problem.. but most people who enjoy a drink are not alcoholics. The same goes for gambling, 95% of people who gamble do not end up with gambling debts. The irony is that the person with the gambling problem (he can get himself into serious debt) is trying to warn everyone else of the dangers, whilst continuing to play a game that could potentially get him back into debt! OP has proven himself to be a degenerate gambler.. but now he is winning at poker, he dosent see it as a potentially dangerous situation. This would be akin to an alcoholic landing a job as a beer taster.. OK he makes money from it.. but he is still partaking in an activity that he cant be 100% sure wont lead him down the wrong path again. The idea that he has learned from his experences is absurd, because adiction causes illogical behaviour, so as long as he wins, he remains logical and has no problem.. put some llosses in there and suddenly that illogical behaviour comes to the forefront again. |

...terrible post imo...i honestly dont think its any of your business whether a player can or cannot afford to lose money...you gotta be over a certain age to gamble for a reason, so by right they should be able to make their own decisions...they dont need, nor want the opinion of someone they dont know that could be across the world and has no idea...also, youve mentioned how you've f****d up gone broke and tilted badly and stuff life that...so i wouldnt recommend telling people whp are truely awful at the game they chose to play to leave, because if all of these decdie to stupidly take your advice and leave, then all thats left are good or average people...this will increase the chances of you losing and going back down the hole you once were in, then id be reading posts about how youve f****D up again...si id recommend shutting up and minding your own bus besides, we play this for money...you say your makng more doing this than your own day job??..then why the hell do yo wanna do something stupid and get banned for helping strangers that prob dont need help COP THE FECK ON

REPEAT OP gives advice Advice is not wanted OP ends up in chatbox argument. OP is reported Poker-site bans him form chat for a period OP does not logically adjust behaviour. REPEAT Its the same spiral that caused him to get into debt. Chances are if he took up running, within a month he would be addicted to the endomorphin rush caused by exercise. |
