This is a difficult question. Certainly there is a good argument to be made for doing one's best to master Hold 'Em, and not getting sidetracked by other games. On the other hand, learning to learn is a skill in itself. So is learning to think on your feet, rather than depending on what you have learned from others. So, in my opinion, learning to play other forms of poker would be beneficial in learning how to be more successful at Hold 'Em. I think it has helped my game.

while holdem is most peoples game of choice i think it is best being solid at all of them. you give yourself more opportunities to find a weak table if searching all the games. if you ever try a horse tourny you'll find players are weaker in the other games most times, especially razz. you said why try others when you haven't mastered holdem, but it is a game that can't be mastered. it is also nice to break up the monotony of the same game over and over.

To answer your question playing another game isn't gonna have any effect what so ever on how you play hold-em.If you are not a master at hold-em you can still play other games some people are good at holdem but fair better in Omaha. It all depends on what that person feel comfortable with.Playing Razz is only gonna keep your mind fresh from burning out on holdem but again they won't be a bad infulence. |

I think other games is also different play and strategy.. when you are playing other games like omaha hi/lo , you are more active then Hold'em.. and you have to use your 2 cards in your hand but hold'em use sometimes 1 card.. So I think everything changes..But if you learn hold'em,you can easily play other games..

I see a lot of people ask the pros that question. They said the more games you learn the better rounded poker player you become. You know what to play in whatever game you are playing in. I have taken up learning all of them and found I play stud the best...but I would say that is the game I like the least. Well, unless you cound holdem limit...that game really sucks.

There are about 8 different poker games with variations on what the nut is. If you log onto PokerStars they have and explanation for each game that you get on the help menue. PS has numerous FreeRolls for the various games including one with all 8 games. Good place to try other games. Check out Badugi - what a name - The nut is A 2 3 4 each a different suit. Haven't tried that yet - looking forward to that. Luck to you.

i think by playing other types of poker, it will help you read hands better, cause you know more different hands that can win, especially when you play omaha hi lo, i like to play it cause it is more difficult then holdem, if you think about it, and it has traslanted to holdm for me, cause i am more imagitive with reading others hands

I like to play alot of the other games : omaha, omaha h/l , stud , stud h/l, razz , badugi, 2-7 single draw, I dont think any of these games help or hurt my holdem game . but I usually do better in the games other then holdem , not cause I'm such a great player in them , but because alot of players play without learnin about them 1st.

I was playing only holdem for a long time and then my game took a bad downswing so I started taking interest in other forms of poker. I actually prefer PLO and LO8 now much more than I do NLHE. I also play the 8-game over at Pokerstars. I dont think any of these games have hurt my HE play I still suck at it.....lol. All kidding aside (sort of) I think my NLHE has improved as a result of playing PLO for some reason. Not sure why just feel that way.

My self I like Let It Ride.... I have been lucky enough to have caught some really nice payouts with 41 four of a kinds at 50:1 and even some great high bet fullhouses. I have left the casino with over $6,000.00 at least 18 times. Cheap stakes dealers choice can be a great way of passing the time too.

currently my favorite is RAZZ, of course I still play more holdem then anything, the great thing abour razz is most players arent to great, which is also the bad thing with razz as they will call you down when you start with a234 and you will miss miss miss and lose to jack high.
