| do you ever make stupid plays like this? ok i was in the 32k 22$ buy in on stars, the blinds were 125/250, and i had about 9500 in chips. So i'm dealt A8o on the bb; there were 2 limpers plus the sb. so i thought this was a good opportunity to attempt a (what i beleive is called...) a sqeeze play, where i try to take down the pot pf. i regretibly went all in, thinking that it didnt matter whether i raised to 3500 or went all in as it was likely they would all fold considering the table was playing tight; and on top of that i had'nt made any stupid plays, or have had any of my bluffs called. anyways, the early position limper calls with AA and i feel like total crap after that. so do you think you would have made the same mistake, or are these types of plays reserved for us donkeys? |

| Even 3500 raise is way too much to raise here. 5xbb max i would say, then AA would come over the top and you could fold. Allin exact wrong play here. And no it's not a squeeze play. Squeeze play would be if last limper raised then you re-raised to squeeze the other players out of the hand, I think. |

| That was horrible play. If you wanted to steal which is what it sounded like you wanted to do, you shouldnt go all in with A8o. A better play would have been to raise 5-6bb and see if anyone called or came over the top. Remember its when you try to get fancy that you shoot yourself in the foot and loose all your money......... |

| re: do you ever make stupid plays like this? poker I have the same problem sometimes. My hand, the mouse, and my ego make the decision without consulting first with my brain. It's like there's an alien force controlling my play and I'm a powerless observer. |

| re: do you ever make stupid plays like this? poker I agree with the poste. Peope seem to over bet their bluffs and risk all their chips when they can often achieve the same result with a smaller bet. Then you have a chance to get away is someone goes over the top, and you can still play with a decent stack. |

I didn't read all the replies, but I agree with I think I have aces. You were nowhere near shove time, and you'd have gotten the same info if you'd raised 3-4bb +1 per limper. AND THEN...fold to a rr and you still have chips. I REALLY hope you made notes on the guy that limped w/ aces. Just in case you meet again. It's happened to me a few times, in about the exact same setup as you, where you are SO certain you can get them all to fold w/a shove, but do the math. I learned it early enough to not want to quit poker. Try a raise next time, and GL |

| A squeeze play is when there is a raise and then someone just calls the raise, then you raise to try and take down the pot. The original raisers range is often pretty wide (unless they are a nit) and they have to worry about the person who flat called behind them to act still, and the person who just flat called usually won't have that strong of a hand because they just called the raise instead of re raising. What you did was not a squeeze play, not even close. |

| Yes. I have done this sort of thing before and other things at least as silly. I like to think of a "pre flop all-in" as a nuclear option. It is one of the most powerful plays and it is extremely simple to do (read: it is also quite unsophisticated), but it carries with it EXTREME risk as you have nothing left to do if you get called. Before you break it out you have to consider the downside. I just don't do it under almost all circumstances UNLESS I have aces and think I get a call. If you have the nuts pre flop (AA) it's a good bet when they call OR when they fold. If you have a marginal hand pre flop (A8o) and do it it's good if they fold... but it's a sick pit of acid refux when they call. Put yourself in the win/win instead of the win/lose. It is also quite dangerous to go all in pre flop with more than 1 or 2 players. Of course I am a ring game player... a PF all in might be used much more rarely there... not sure. $22 ain't too expensive if the next time you itch to drop a bomb you consider options first. | We've all done it before. Just tonite, I went out with AK soooted when my 3X BB bet was reraised to put me allin. Did I stop to think- NOO, I thought he was pulling what you tried to in your posT! I was also greeted with A-A. We all make the wrong play sometimes. ... That's poker. We learn. We move on.. |

| re: do you ever make stupid plays like this? poker Sure, we all make stupid moves one time or another, but at that level of play I don't think I'd a done what you done---although I have done that KIND of thing.....Like pushing all in pre-flop with trying to steal with at LEAST A-sumpin' sooted, but NOT A-8o....I want at least something I could make a hand with, A-8o is a nowhere no-matter-what happens hand! It should at least be a hand that has a POSSABILITY of beating A-A! |
