Difference between winning and losing For me, the key between a winning or losing session, besides avoiding or getting bad beats, is how well I do with AK/AQ. I imagine for many players, that's true as well?

If you don't learn when to fold your top pair-top kicker hand - you will never be a winner. I learned this more than a year ago, and more other interesting things to think about came up AK/AQ rarely win a full stack in cash games and you shouldn't overplay them

The difference between winning sessions and losing sessions is just luck! That simple. you can play the greatest poker youve every played but you get few bad beats you have a losing session. Ive justlost 2 sit n gos. plaing well. Guy went all in i called with queen queen another called.. Both had ace jack. and yes you guessed it an ace hit the flop!! incredible. Then other sit n go had a k suited guy went all in i called. he had 6 7!! flop hits 6 77!!!!!!! wtf. Thats the diff between winning and losing sessions. doenst matter what hands you have, how much a fav you are your still going to have huge bad beat runs and have losing sessions. Luck is the difference.

But you shouldnt judge your poker skills by 1 session, or by 20 sessions. As long as you are always making the correct decisions and the correct plays then over the long period of time you will win. The big problem with most players is tilt. You just have to play correctly every single time. Dont let anything else affect your play. Then you will win in long run, which is what counts. My tip is...Dont look at your bankroll. play correctly, always making sound decisions. obviously youl have bad beats etc but take them on chin and just play, harder than it sounds lol. after a long period say if you play everyday then after amonth. if you play every few days then a few months. then you may be pleasantly surprised by a nice tidy profit. whereas you thinking you had a big loss due to your bad beats sticking in your head.

re: Difference between winning and losing poker For me the most important factor is, who is able to bring his a-game all the time, in good times and also in times, when he is running bad. And the differerence between good and very good players is the THIN VALUE BET on the river !

The only answer I can come up with is how much you bring home and or in your account. If I lose the majority of my hands but still profit then I'm a winner. Right? You don't need to bring your A game if you're already coming out on top. You can be a winner with a good amount of luck, as long as you getting paid. So that is what make a winner compare to a loser who don't bring home money.

The difference between a winning and losing player is simple. The winning player is happy, because he just won - and the loser is fuming mad. Last edited by psy0nyd3 : 18th September 2010 at 1:47 AM. Reason: I'm kidding. What did you think?!?!

Don't decide that you are a winner or loser by one or even two sessions. If you are serious about poker you will keep track of ALL your sessions. And over the long haul, if you are making money then you are a winner. Daniel Negreanu, is (was) second on the all time money list of tourney wins. Yet he has NEVER won the main event. Get the point?

I think the AK/AQ theory has a lot of merit to it because it seems you either win a decent pot with these hands or lose a big one. I stacked a guy off last night while he was holding AK. I had the 24c and two clubs hit the flop along with an A, I also had a gutshot draw. I rivered a club and pushed all in over the top of his river bet and he called. Not sure what he was thinking because he could only beat a bluff in that scenario. In my experience, winning small to mid size pots with these two hands is important for any session. I can fold with these hands easily though, probably to easy. Internet poker taught me that trick, but the casino crowd will generally go down with the ship if they pick up AK or AQ.

Every hand in every situation can be difficult to play Do you judge your game on if your AK beat 10 10 and stuff like that or if you have AA and dont make enough chips and stuff like that? You have to be able to fold any hand in poker no matter how good it it Just my opinion inti

Ak vs 67 or lower cards ain't a bad beat though. neither is the flip when you had QQ and both of the others had aces.. always before the flop the flip it was gonna be 30-70 at the very least. Having the dicipline to fold strong hands to what you feel has even stronger is a big key, set over set, flush over flush, you flopping a fh turn or river gives villian bigger fh etc.. | re: Difference between winning and losing poker I'd say.. "it depends". There's no way that an overall session or tournament play can come down to how we choose to play AK/AQ hands. It might depend upon whether or not you win a flip with AK or AQ in tournament play (but same with many other hands) |

I actually understand the AK/AQ theory and if it works for OP then that's great, but it is still costing money to find out. I actually find a couple of games of solitaire is a good indicator of how the cards are falling for me.
