Don't play like an idiot and actually think about poker. This isn't anything against you personally, as I don't know your play money game, I just have seen how the majority of play money players are, and the description of it is nothing short of terrible.

1. Tighten up. You probably play too many hands.
2. Be more aggressive. You probably call way more often than you raise.
3. Don't try to pull big dumb bluffs. They don't work like on TV.
4. Be able to let go of marginal hands, draws, small pairs, or pairs with bad kickers.

Very solid advice....

You need all that and more when it comes to online poker, and even at my "average/tight game" I have trouble getting by online.

My advice is to remember online poker is a different animal compared to real poker(as in a real setting like with a real deck of cards)

The online game is very frustrating, and takes a ton of patience. Play on the lowest level of stakes/buy-ins until your confidence grows before you go for larger-priced games.

This site will teach you a great deal, read, and never think you're above advice....you also need to face defeat often and steady.

I wish you the best of luck....

what sites would you recommend for real money that have really low micro stakes for an U.S. citizen.

I currently started/playing on Cake Poker and BetOnline.... you have some freerolls and low/micro stakes to play...

Cake is the better of the two, in my opinion. I never have a problem with Cake's connection. betOnline seems to always go out on me, and you'll find it to be a bit skitchy, but there are plenty of freerolls to try out. Thats what I do...when it comes time for a deposit I'm going with Cake out of the two.

BetOnline would be good if I wish to bet on sports, but I'm not interested at this time, and we're talking poker regardless.

Remember, this is my opinion. Others may feel differently, but most people here at the forum play on both

Good Luck to you

This is great advice, and also something that SOOOO many bad players decide to ignore. People who complain about losing, and then blow up at someone when they try giving them advice, will never get better. Having an outsiders opinion, whether that outsider is better or worse of a player than you, can be extremely beneficial, because it gets you thinking more.

Also, something that goes along with the last part, realize that there will be stretches where you lose... it's going to happen whether you like it or not. It isn't the site conspiring against you, nor is it someone cheating you, it is simply the variance that comes along with playing poker. It seems to happen more often online, but that's just because you're playing more hands in a shorter period of time online, even if only playing one table.

Good luck.

Yes you can. I would suggest viewing the strat. section here and spend some time reading. I wish you the best and welcome to the grind. :)
