Difference between $10nl and $25nl

I have been watching a lot of $25nl today. And have been playing a lot of $10nl the past week.

I think I can summarise my findings from each one. I may be way off the mark, but its just opinion.


$10nl

Most people here who dont really follow poker that much. They tend to be quite passive and often dont know how to play a hand so just check call. As a result the main feature is they call when they should be raising. They tend to play solid hands as they understand its a high card game but are often predictable.

$25nl

These people here probably think they are too advanced for $25nl because they have a watched televised poker. Of course televised poker generally only shows the action hands and ignore the hands that are played simply but well. They see Tom Dwan & Sam Farha bluffing / raising with any two cards and think they can too. As a result the main problem is they raise when they should be folding (or calling of the odds are correct).

I'm guessing many $25nl players are just too impatient to grind 10nl, and not rolled to play. Doubt much difference in overall skill level, but expect to run into more good players. Just started playing 25nl and seems to be even more limping so far and more people buying in short (at 6max anyway)

I have to agree with you there. I see a lot of "value raises" on the river with top pair, marginal kicker at 25NL. There's a lot of pointless aggression and fancy-play syndrome kicking around too. The "check-min-raise" is used waaaaaaaaaay too often.

That said, players don't seem as quick to stack off at 25NL than they do at 10NL. That alone can make it harder to win.

I'd be hard pressed to identify any specific differences between the two, at least on Stars, and I'm currently playing both 10, 25 and 50 there, depending on my inclination.

I guess I could (and probably should) go through my database and compare stats, but I just find a tiny bit more aggression, a tiny bit more proper 3 betting (as opposed to open shoving over top), a tiny bit less tendency to stack off with top pair, ect. And maybe more short stackers at 10 than 25, and ones that don't know how to do it properly.
