Did I make the right play? 5th hand in a $5 MTT, everyone at around 1500 chips. I am dealt KJ off suit, I limp in early position. A bunch of limpers and the flop comes 9, 10, Q rainbow. UTG bets, 2nd position raises, so I reraise him and the guy after me goes all in. Everyone folded and I called. He had 99 and then another Q came on the turn to make a full house.

No you made the wrong play. Horrible idea calling the all in with a K high straight there. You should never call all-ins with the nuts off the flop. LOL. Uh are you serious?? Are you really asking if you made the right play?? If you don't know the answer by now, by yourself, then you definitely need to learn more about poker. A lot more. KJ on a 9-10-Q rainbow flop. Hmm, what hand is the best possible hand here?? Uh, lets see, I think it's the K high straight. Wait, I have the K high straight. Huh, does that mean I have the best hand possible?? YESSSS! OK, to the point, you have the nuts off the flop, if all the money gets in the middle there then there's absolutely nothing you can do, of course you have to call the all-in there. You got unlucky, nothing you can do; that's just part of the game. If you don't realize that that was the only play you could have made right there, and should have made without any hesitation at all, then maybe you should re-evaluate your game before playing for money anytime in the near future.

Well obviously I know it's the best hand and I flopped a nut straight with no possible flush. If I didn't know that then I wouldn't have called. I generally don't like going all in that early in a MTT. Anyway, I've been getting extreme bad beats all weekend so I'm starting to question if I'm doing the right thing or not. This isn't nearly as bad as other hands... at least this guy had some outs.

If you're beginning to question whether or not you're making the right play by calling an all-in with the nuts on the flop, then I think it's time for you to take a break. Sometimes, when you're completely off your game or you're not playing your style, and begin to question straightforward, matter of fact plays, then its time for a break. This is as easy and straightforward as a play as there ever will be--nut straight off the flop, easy call. If you're questioning that, you're definitely not playing at your best. Take a break for a bit, and start playing again when you know you can be at your best.

I know, this one wasn't too bad. I've had some pretty bad ones over the weekend though. Here was a bad one: I had AA and raised preflop, somebody called with 9 10 off suit. The flop came A, K, blank. I put him all in and he called (I hate slowplaying aces). The turn came Queen and the river came Jack.

re: Did I make the right play? poker You had the best hand after the flop, but unless no matter what comes on the turn and the river you couldn't lose, you weren't holding the nuts. Of course everyone is going to call in that spot, just thank god, (uh oh was I allowed to say god? lol) you weren't sitting at a final table with a million dollars going to the winner.
