deciding when to leave a ring game

How do people decide when to leave a ring game?

Do you have a profit target in mind before getting on the table or do you just see how it goes? or do you have a stop loss in mind? i.e. will you leave if you lose 2/3rds of your stack?

I find that my profit target is generally determined by available time and that my stop loss is more often than not, zero.

I'm sure there must be a better way to approach it.

Any suggestions?

I leave when ive at least doubled up my chip stack, or when I make a big profit, then lose a significant amount, ill leave and reevaluate my play if it was badly played then return to another table later.

yesterday i played for about 4 hours. i decided i was gonna leave. the next hand put me in the big blind and i failed to leave before it posted it for me. i was dealt pocket Aces and thought sweet, i'll add a few more bones to the BR before i go. i can't quite remember how the betting went but some how i ended up all in preflop with 1 caller. i showed aces, he showed 7's. seven came on the flop. i lost my stack, swore at the computer, kicked the cat on my way upstairs and took a nap. that's how i decided to leave the game yesterday.

usually for me it's time restraints. i only have so much time during the day to play so i usually use full advantage of it.

I will stay at a table as long as I'm winning and the fish are still contributing, obv determined by time constarints. When I'm losing at a table, then I'll re-evaluate. If I lose upto 2 buy ins then I'm leaving it. I don't set limits on profits as long as I think I have an edge at that table.

If i have seen the button three times and still haven't had a good starting hand I'm out of there. If i have i look to double my stack and then leave that table.

I would leave the game when I made profit.
So this means doubling up, in ring games there is always a risk to lose your whole money even if youre really sure holding the best hand.
