Dark talk

I was playing the other day on Pokerstars and start talking to a guy who said he had been drinking for hours. He finnally tells me the reason why he had been boosing excessively. He told me that his girfriend had just killed herself. Wow what a bombshell. Ofcourse i was skeptical of the validity of his claim , but he assured me that it was no joke and the real deal. What would the rest of the conversation be like it was you he was venting to that day?

To be honest .. other than 'I am sorry to hear that' the conversation wouldn't go much further.

I mean what can you say?

'....same thing happened to me the other week...'

'....you know I have a funny story about that....'

'....plenty more fish in the sea....'

'....here is what I would do......'

'....you know I thought you were going to say that.....'

'....why don't you move into my place for a few days, until you feel better....'

Sometimes there just isn't anything you can say other than 'I'm sorry to hear that'

At the end of the day he is a complete stranger talking to you via a chat box... realistically what can you say that is going to help?

Yes, not much to say there, but if he wants to vent I would let him do it. Maybe if you tell him that you feel sorry to hear that, and then just let him open up if he wants to, and you just listen.
Obviously not much else you can do.

This may sound harsh but hey, if it was me...I am there to play poker, not shrink! There is a time and a place for everything and when I am its my cash on the table then dont cross the boundaries. He should have friends and family that he can offload on!

It would be a different thing if it was someone I knew!

And besides which, poker and alcohol dont go together and if I have any inkling that someone has been drinking then I will attack when I know they are weak!

re: Dark talk poker

this is why i hardly leave the chat on during playing games, unless it is a fourm game, then i will chat cause its usally not that harsh, but when i am playing mtt, or sng i tend to click the info screen rather then have chat on, i can concentrate better on what cards are coming out and whos betting, so i dont have to deal with that, that is mind blowing though, i might even suggest reporting chat, cause ppl are really crazy these days

All I can say is... WOW!!! and LOL

Some people deal with things in a different way. One way is humor. I'm not laughing at the situation, just the fact that Zorba actually went "there". TriggaLos is not responsible for Zorba's comments, nor does he indorce said comments, although they were funny in light of the seriousness of the subject matter.

Yeah. I'd just say sorry to hear that. And let it drop. Maybe stay for another orbit then change tables. Too weird all around. Who tells that stuff at an online poker table?

I shut my chat off for just these reasons...I tell you one thing, if a loved one had just died I don't think I would spend my time talking about it to strangers on PS, sounds like a guy trying to influence your play with his talk...Sick stuff

Chippy = Fish and chip shop
Kebab = Donna Kebab.. I don't think I could ever explain to a non-UK person what a donna kebab is. I could explain it in theory... but thereality of a Donna Kebab is something that can only be... experienced!!!

LMAO that is so true, Ive just come back from a trip to the states and had several convos trying to explain stuff like that.

As for the topic I very much doubt its true, as others have intimated why would U just blert that out to random strangers.
