| Couple of Questions of Interest (for me, at least). Two simple questions I'd like to ask... First, do you analyze where a person is from when playing poker against them, and adjust your play accordingly (however that may be)? Meaning that if you're playing someone Dutch or Danish, do you automatically expect them to bluff more, or someone from the East Coast (USA) to play tighter. Second, do you ever play those cliched hands because of the novelty? 10-4, 9-5, 7-2, 10-2, etc. |

| re: Couple of Questions of Interest (for me, at least). poker If I see they're from Romania or Finland... I almost always put them on a bluff when they bet higher than the pot. Usually it pays off for me but every once in a while I get burned. I'd say 60-65% of the time they're bluffing with a bigger-than-pot sized bet. I've also noticed that Australian players at CDPoker appear to be VERY aggressive. I haven't played against that many, but every single one I've seen has been loose-aggressive. I'll agree that most Canadian players I've played aren't that bright and chase everything, but there are some that I've played that are very, very good. The same thing can be said about us Americans, though. |

I would be even more surprised if more than 92% of the U.S. population could find Canada on a map.... of North America. |

| It is untrue. Did you apply logic when you thought up that little ditty in your head? I'll answer for you. No. Unless you're counting the millions of children who can't read or write yet...and others. It's really not a very good comment. p.s. I don't dont have to read total b.s. more than once...what? you don't think mexicans can find canada on a map...? lol Last edited by wsorbust : 16th June 2006 at 9:15 AM. |

What % of the U.S. population is mentally challenged? What % is legally blind? What % is just dumb? What % have never been educated? (Think Ozarks etc.) Oh, and make sure you add all those children! You now have 1 in 10 people (or more) that can NOT find Canada on a map. |

| Well, if you consider that maybe 1 in 10 is aged 7 or under, and most of them know very little about geography... and then add the ones aged 8-14 who still know little about geography... and then those who really should know better but don't... it's not hard to come up with 1 in 10 people not knowing who the president is, where Canada is, or whatever. Equally, you could come up with similar stats for people in the UK not knowing who the Prime Minister is, etc. Just because you don't like the idea, doesn't make it untrue. The figure is as likely to be completely pointless as it is to be true, though. I don't think it's that great an idea to make assumptions about how someone will play based on where they live. However, if you factor in the time you're playing, then you can surmisie people from some areas as being more likely to be playing more hands because they've only got their lunch break to play in, or it's the time of day when people will be coming home drunk and having a game, so you can possibly use the current time and their location to come up with a possible situation in which they're playing and see whether their style fits that. For playing the obvious junk hands like 7-2o, generally I won't play them. However, if half my chips are in on a blind then I may be forced to gamble. Also, in a limit cash game, if you sit down and play a couple of junk hands very early on like that, then you may get people to peg you as a loose player, and get more action with a real hand. That said, this probably isn't worthwhile in a loose, low-limit game when not enough people will be paying attention anyway. In a No Limit game, they can be playable occasionally, but basically only when you're on the button and nobody has entered the pot, so it's just you against the blinds, where a raise may just take the pot there and then. Even in that situation you only want to do it occasionally otherwise people will know you're just stealing and call with a better junk hand. |

sometimes feels strange when a table has 3-4 players from the same country. so, usually look for a good mix. best, donvic |

| re: Couple of Questions of Interest (for me, at least). poker To get a serious post here. I think that you should only factor in where they are from for time zone purposes. If you in North America are playing a afternoon tourny and you have a couple of players from Europe, then you can factor in that it is closer to midnight or later there and they may be tired and ready for bed. YOu could also do the same for the opposite. If it is midnight or later here, than you know it is around afternoon over there. The way that most of you put it is too much generalization. You cant put a player in a category of play because of where they are from. You can find all types of players from everywhere. |
