could i have played it differently

the game is 1/2 Nl I have 125 behind me against a 175 dollar stack

Im a tight but very aggresive player
My opponent complet Maniac player (pre flop raises all over the place plays make no sense but whatever it was working for him)

The Hand
Me KQ suited diamonds 1st off the button Him K5 os hes in the sb. one limper so i raise to $8 button folds he repops to $20. limper folds i think about it for a sec or 2 realize hes been a maniac so his range was anything from AA to Ax s or os, to 3 6 suited. i call .

Flop come Kc 4s 8s he moves all in forall my chips 105 behind matmatically i know the call is bad but i said fk it went with my read and said at worse its a flush draw and im 64/36 if he had me beat he had me beat . turns out my read was right they usually are and he turns over K5 and im a huge favorite. of course the donk gets lucky and hits the miracle 3 outter and now im 100 bucks short for my ounce of kush lol j/k i got that sht locked in my bumcheeks lol j/k

Did i do anything wrong from a feel perspective not math i know math wise it was a dumb call but considering i was ahead i guess it was mathmatically correct considering i was ahead. or should i just say forget my reads when a donkey makes that play just fold.

The saying know when to fold is great advice but you also need to play to win. Looks to me that you a great read on this guy and you also had top pair with a great kicker. I would say in the circumstances the call was right. If you played the same hand over and over you would end up winning.

standard, he lucked out, you got it in good... only thing you can do is get the money in as a favourite, then its up to the random number generator

make sure your not playing above your bankroll, if you have one.. seems like you needed that 125...

why do you have a read his range had to include hands better than yours didnt they?

This is just a typical suckout. Given the info you gave on the maniac, I would have made the call as well.

Math isn't the only factor when deciding to make a call or not. You had a good read on him and got your money in with the best hand. That is all you can do. You played it well.

Chalk it up to variance.

I've seen too many KQ pocket cards lose so I would not of played that hand and waited for another, if this guy is a maniac then you would of had other chances to take him out.

Some players, like this one play anything when they are running hot and usually win...i was in a similar situation at the casino recently...a player at a 200 max table was hitting everything...word had spread around the room as he had over 1300 at the table and there was now a crowd of onlookers...i got Aces in the pocket and hit a set on the flop....he runner runners for the flush to tap me out of my 310 i had worked up to over about 2 hours time...it just happens that way sometimes.

I would have repopped him pre-flop.

The reason is simple, he's been re-raising all over the place and playing like a maniac. K-Q is a dangerous hand because it's easily dominated, but I doubt he had AK, AQ, AA-QQ, and any pocket pair lower than that's a coin flip. He could have raised to represent a bigger hand, so if an Ace hit you'd think you were beat. As it was he could have put you on AJ, AT, or a suited Ace, or even suited connectors with that raise from your position.

A decent sized reraise (50-60) Would show him that you mean business, have a strong hand in a strong position, and if he went all-in you'd have pot-odds to call.

Of course the one downside with this plan is he does have you dominated. After the fact knowing he has K5 and you have him dominated surely effects my reasoning, but if you look at your actions, he definitely couldn't have put you on AK, AA, or KK with the way you played that hand.

None of those hands would have stopped at a 3-bet with those stack sizes, so he probably figured his k-5 was good when he put all his money in the pot. Wrong, yes, but it worked for him in the end.

Well if your read was right, then it was right, just bad luck is all

No I have a bankroll i was just making a funny to help with the fact i just lost a 200 plus pot when i was severly favored not to

yea u really cant help it there i mean if ur not going to call him when ur about a 4 to 1 favourite when are u going to call

you played it the best you could. he hit a 3 outer. You were well ahead before the flop and on the flop. But i've been running really bad lately too. Higher sets than mine just as an example.
