Converting PT databases to postgreSQL

(trust me, I'm just as lost as you are).

Converting your database helps speed up retrieving time and I think saves space too. Especially helpful with bigger databases. I'm trying to install it and convert my DB right now but can't even find the right installation file

Anybody have a postgresql DB that could help me out?

This is also just a reminder to the frequent players who are raking in up to the tens of thousands/100k+ hands that you'll probably need to do this soon.

Taylor, I converted mine a while ago but can't remember how. Stormswa did a instructional video on PT and he explained it. I'll search for the vid if you can't find it.

Naw, It was pretty straight forward. If you have a lot of hands, like I did, then it just takes a little while. Brian did a good job of explaining it.

What do you guys have inputted under postgres settings>ODBC Entry to use?

This is something he didn't explain.

edit: nevermind, found it.

(and ya, this looks a lot easier than I'd thought. PT's forum and their jibber-jabber just scared me )

Thanks from me for the link too Rob. I only got part way thru making the conversion. Instead I exported my last 2 months of hands, created a new database, imported the 2 months of hands, and changed databases.

But, I should still finishe the conversion.

Remember: Postgres WILL NOT work on FAT file systems. Most XP machines are FAT unless you convert them, which is a very technical procedure.

Mine is a custom pc i made myself...really not sure if it is or not :/

I forgot what FAT means, but here's how to check:

Go to "My Computer".
Right click your C: drive and select "properties".
Then read what it says for "File System:".
(I'll betcha it's FAT or FAT32.)

Just merged my 45 databases (6, j/k) into one and started converting it.

Actually just ran into an error that's complete jibberish to me; gonna forward it to PT.

I converted mine a while ago too. One problem I have now: every time I reboot the computer I have to manually go in and stop, then re-start the postgresql process. If I don't, and try to open PT, it hangs and can not access the database .

Stopping and starting the process again makes it fine, PT will then open.

Oh well.

fyi I fixed whatever the error did and everything works perfectly.
