To continue poker or not?

I am thinking about the future of my poker playing as I am not as hyped as I used to be about playing.

Part of this might be because I have been having huge swings this year (I have gone bust about 5 times, while I had only once busted before).

Also I have not been able to play the bigger tournaments (200+ dollars) in a while, but the smaller tournaments almost fell like freerolls, ie. I play too loose early.

I might be playing some live games once I get to Macau (in three days), but I think my online game will have to rest for a good 6 months plus.

If anyone of you get the chance to come to Macau, PM me and lets meetup.

In the meanwhile I want to hear if someone out there has been feeling the same way and what they have done.

If you can't play within the constraints of you bankroll, then I'd say give it a rest. Maybe poker is just an occasional entertainment expense for you ie. once or twice a year you deposit whatever amount, play until it's gone, and then wait until you've saved up enough in your personal entertainment budget and then deposit again.

For most ppl, building a bankroll takes time and patience. And sticking to a predefined bankroll startegy, should make it nearly impossible for a winning poker player to go broke. Not sticking to it, then yes going broke is a likelihood. I used to have crap BRM and regularly reloaded on sites. Then I practised good BRM and haven't made a deposit with my own funds in nearly 2 years.

This. If you aren't a winning player or want to play higher than your bankroll allows, then it's for entertainment purposes and you should set aside a set amount you're prepared to lose just as if you were going to play blackjack or craps at a casino. If you're a winning player and want to build a bankroll either wait until you can afford to deposit a good amount or you're going to have to grind the low stakes to build the bankroll.

Basically I think I am loosing at cash games mainly although I do have some games such as pot limit omaha(8) and 7-card stud that I think I am profitable in, but have too many times played over my BR. Today I started to expiriment with HORSE cash games (after having some sort of success in SNGs and tournaments) and I think those look very profitable although I do still have some small leaks.

In terms of tournaments and SNGs, I guess I have won more than I have put in, but the amount is not huge. And overall I have withdrawn more money than put in, so that is good also.

I think the main reason that I keep going bust this year is BRM and the fact that I have only deposited three times so far and usually don't unless I have a good expectancy two times I have withdrawn more than I put in and I have almost lost my third deposit), I currently don't want to put too much money due to being a student.

I do crave for the high stakes tournament and recently spent most of my party poker BR (28 dollars) to try to qualify for the million dollar tournament, but ca,e up a bit short. I still think this was +EV, as I only lost 28 dollars, but the chances were that I was going to get a good experience and walk away with much more than I have ever won.

And there lies your problem. You want success faster than your BR can cope with. You spent all your BR trying to qualify for a lottery ticket. Only you can change your thoughts and practices, trying to get lucky to build your roll is basically a long shot and always will be.

You spent *most* of a BR on a MTT? I think you should seriously reconsider how you view poker, and treat it as a hobby where you expect to lose money, as NineLions said.

It seems like you're playing way way out of your bankroll just based on what youv'e said.

if you expect to deposit and turn that into a 100,000 a year job then you should quit...
if you want entertainment then deposit only when receiving a deposit bonus grind out bonus dollars and cashout your initial deposit after clearing the bonus..if you cant make money with a bonus ..quit... play out any winnings anyway you desire...or rollover into another deposit bonus...rinse and repeat.

Always there is a bad moments in poker, we all have had this problem; Now, is good a rest and to return with renewed energies.

I think this a problem that comes with having played so many higher stakes tournaments this year and obviosuly being very very hungry for victory. Being a young player doesn't help either, at times I feel like I need to win everything right now.

The bankroll I had on partypoker I spent on this, maybe a bit too foolishly but the thing was that I wanted to play this tournament and put all I had for it. I can always build up BR later and also Partypoker is not one of my favorite sites (My goal last month was not to play there unless they give me money to play, which in a way they did).

I think the best thing for me right now is to enjoy my time in Macau, play some cash games and tournaments live. Anyways, I will probably have very little time for online poker. I think I should concecntrate on HORSE from now on and maybe get some Holdem, Omaha and 7-card stud hands in.

The last thing is I don't feel so good a bout playing poker as I used to, maybe I have been playing too much lately and a break will fix this.

I think it's wise to take a break. It will help clear you head, maybe read a book or two to help sharpen your skills and save some money to try again. You'll be surprised how effective taking a break really is.

take a break from it and spend some time away from it. who knows maybe changing games will spark ure interest up again.
