Common Misspellings: A guide to help you look good!

(Purposely in the most popular section of the forum.)

For whatever reason, many people nowadays seem to spell certain commonly used words incorrectly. You know, those words that are very common in everyday conversation and even some that are well-used in online poker verbage. Here's a little help & clarity for those who want to tighten up their spelling and their online image:

Correct Spelling - Short Meaning - Usage

There - a place - "I play there."
Their - belongs to them - "I play at their site."
They're - "They are" - "They're playing now."

Your - belongs to you - "I like your game."
You're - "You are" - "You're really nice."

Deuce - the "2" card - "The river was a deuce."

Withdrawal - the act of taking out - "My withdrawal is complete."

Site - a place - "I play at their site."
Sight - regarding seeing - "She was a lovely sight."

(My spelling isn't always perfect, but I will add more as they come up. Staff: Feel free to add to this main post as you see fit and please consider for a sticky. Others can add posts to this, also. But be sure to use your dictionary. I did!)

I realise a lot of regulars have contributed to this post so this might not be a popular opinion and the thread has become a lot more humorous as it has proceeded, which improves it somewhat. However, to be honest, who is here to learn how to spell?

Pedantic, self-indulgent and unnecessary.

An off-topic thread at best.

I think all people have an interest in presenting themselves in the best way possible . what that is might be different for different people.

we come from all places in the world , we come from all walks of life , we are different races , we are all here for the same reasons, poker talk and advice ,and friends .

Judge Not , Lest you Be Judged .

I do think this is a good thread , started in a helpful way ,for people wanting to do better,me included. if we didn't get it in school , I'm not sure we will now either , but thanks for trying.

Jay, it's meant in a light-hearted way. We all know everyone makes mistakes.

Here's my contribution:

Slain: past participle of slay; to kill (He was slain by the superior female poker player.)

Slained: not a word
