| Comments to Other players Recently i was playing a friendly game of poker. I was bluffing another player with a decent hand, who was looking like he was ready to fold. Another player told him that he was pot committed and had to bet. He had had a lot of chips left on a big bet that could have crippled him. In my opinion, one he wasn't pot committed, two, telling him he was pot committed really hurt me, cause i was bluffing him. He was about to fold, and when the other person told him he was pot committed he bet, and i lost to ace high. He had nothing but called because someone told him he was pot committed. Am i wrong in being upset with the person who told him he was pot committed? I thought that person was out of line, influencing the other players bet. |

| Yes, you are not suppose to comment about a hand still in progress. It is rude to table talk especially if you are not still in the hand. At a casino you can actually get kicked out or given a time out for giving advice to another player during the hand. You can talk all you want once the hand is finished and tell them everything they did right/wrong. |

| Actually, no one at the table or railing should be discussing the hand in progress. Doesn't matter if you are in the hand or not. And yes, reporting it would not be out of line. What they did was very close to collusion. And even if you don't like the word collusion, at a very minimum they violated the "one player to a hand" rule. Of course nothing significant will come of reporting this because there isn't actually any proof that he would have folded before being told he was committed. But they could get warning e-mails or something. |

| I have to disagree, if I am plying the hand, I should be able to say whatever the hell I want to so long as I don't reveal my hole cards. Likewise, I expect others to be able to say whatever the hell they want when playing against me, so long as they don't reveal their hole cards too. Trash talking is a significant part of poker. I like saying out loud what you know they are thinking, "Why the hell would he raise so much, he must have something, crap, I better fold." Its fun. |

| re: Comments to Other players poker This is one thing that ticks me off at home games. I can't count how many times someone was about to fold but talked into staying and ends up taking a pot. The two people in the hand can talk all you want, everyone else SHUT UP! If it's not your hand, don't worry about it. |

This has actually been a bit of an issue in some of the recent CardsChat events. I am convinced it play at least some role in this (http://www.cardschat.com/f51/anatomy-failed-bluff-95375/) failed bluff of mine. You can't comment on the play of the hand in progress. It is ILLEGAL to: 1. say something to the effect of "oh, I folded xx and would have a flush/straight/etc." when not in the hand, or throw your arms up in disgust with a "pfft, figures. Everytime!" when the flop comes out. This tells the players still in the hand that it is less likely/impossible for their opponent to have the hand you folded. 2. give your "read" of any player to someone still in the hand. This includes commenting on how you think any player is perceived a the table, has played hands in the past, or what you think is occurring in the hand happening at the time. You can't say things like "he's bluffing" or "he knows you're tight" or "he over bet the pot on a busted draw last time" or anything of that nature. 3. commenting on the board itself: you can't say something like "there is a straight/flush out there" or "chop it up, the nuts is on the board" or similar comments. It's up to the players in the hand to recognize/read the board. ONE PLAYER TO A HAND PLEASE. |

It's up to the players in the hand to recognize/read the board. quote] That drives me INSANE. The other night I was playing in a live game. I had 4,7 os in the BB and four limpers so of course I check. The flop came 5,8,A. Everyone checks again. The turn is a 6. One player raises and I call, everyone else folds. River was a 2. Player bets, I re-raise and player thinks and thinks. Some idiot muses out loud, "man, if she has 3,4 or 7,4 you're killed. She was the big blind you know." So the small blind mucks his cards, face up showing A,8. I know most people don't think about how they are affecting the game with their comments, but there's really no excuse for it. Any serious poker player should know enough to keep their mouths shut. |

Are we even talking about the same thing here? This topic is about comments made by other players during the course of a hand that effect the decisions being made by those playing the hand, not f-bombs or insults to others. Last edited by aliengenius : 18th October 2007 at 6:22 PM. |

| Well being someone who was once penalized for dropping and F-bomb at the poker table, I was told there's a couple of things that determine whether or not a player gets called out for using bad language. 1-A tournament director has to see/hear it; absent of that, another player has to report it and they have to have cooberation. 2-The cursing has to take place at the table. I can get up and cuss a blue streak, but I can't curse at the table. |

| I thought I heard recently that they softened up the profanity punishments for this year's WSOP. They weren't allowed to curse AT someone, but they could curse simply using f*** as an interjection. Personally I curse a lot when I'm playing (home game) but never against someone really. Stuff like "what the f*** do you have? or "you f***in' kidding me?" From my understanding that would be legal at the WSOP this year. If you start cursing at players, that's when you get in trouble. |
