Comfortable playing! I think after 2 years of being on-line I'm sarting to get it! If you have a problem with a certain type of game ...wheather it be a freeroll or add-on or late-registration .....just don't play in them! Put your full attention on the games you feel comfortable with....and stop wasting energy on the games you dislike....just one man's opinion ...but for the last 2 months it's worked for me!

If u find u have a better edge in ring games then stick to them where u can make ur bread & butter. Its no harm tho to slip into MTT/SnG for fun every now and then. Or even jus have a daft cheap game of PLO or STUD. But I agree that if u stick to ring game, vice versa then u will have more luck since u'll b more experienced in it.

Yes, that´s right, everbody has to find his niche, whether tourneys or cash or whatever... And Specialize ! That´s what Dusty "Leatherass" Schmidt said in his great book. (Poker = Business) If you play this or that, you will neve be good, only mediocre. Exception: Your name is Phil Ivey. :-)

That said, play some other types of games/structures every now and then at levels you are easily rolled for. It's fun to get comfortable with more than one sort of game. And it's fun to learn. People keep talking about moving up, and that's fine if you want to get closer to the bigtime. But some of us are happy to find a place where we feel good. We are not intending to go pro. |

This is where Im starting to have trouble, what do I want to excel in. I started with MTT's but it gets so tiring to almost get there and you misplay one or two hands and hours of work is down the drain, SNG's Im about to start dabbling in, I have spread myself way to thin by staking myself on too many sites and starting to pull all the cash back and thing Im gonna just stick with the big 2 since SNG's seem rather scarce on smaller sites (unless Im just looking in the wrong places) Cash games I have found recently something that I do enjoy as you can recoup mistakes with good play. I also find it more satisfying when I come out with a profit But regardless of what Im gonna play, I gotta play tons more hands and get really dedicated to all this much more than I am. Id like to be a decent all around player in all these types of play. BUt I dont know if Ijust need to focus on one until Im good at in and then try other types. I do know one thing I DO NOT LIKE REBUY ADD ON tournies as these drain me fast, Im sure the good players never even need to spend extra money on these or if they do, its just to pad their already large stacks LOL

re: Comfortable playing! poker Yea we should definitely stick to our comfort zone. At the same time playing out of our league if u will, might help our comfort zone in the end. So i'm certainly gonna try to become decent at most poker games but focus the most on HE. I connect poker to many things in life like bball for eg. If ur a great jumpshooter it doesnt mean u should only be standing around the 3pt line waitin for the ball. Generally speaking practice makes perfect. And u dont wanna find urself in a juicy Razz game one day and not know a thing about it.

THis is some great advice, my only problem its taking me a while to figure what Im most comfortable with and If I do inproved the comfort levels will probably changes, as right now I hate R+A torunies but if I get good at building stacks early then I will probably love these. Im feeling more relazxed playing ring games but dang one mistake can be costly but I guess the same hold true for MTT's, one mistake can wipe out hours of work. DON's Im out to lunch on I played a simple $1 double up and it lasted over an hour and I thought I was set and suddenly blinds and players just unable to knock out each other almost got me in a bind. SNG's I dont play that much but I think these would help my final table skills

re: Comfortable playing! poker I believe you should have a players knowledge of all games, but the game you play the best should be the one you play the most. Knowledge is power the more you know the easier it is to win. If you can incorporate your knowledge and skill into various game in micro or low level games you should be at least profitable , because the various skills of reading cards, people and situtations will allow you to beat the fish.

a quick search on the internet should let you know about all poker games, and if you want to learn other types of poker than Holdem you can do it very easy...so be open to new things ...try different types of poker so you can chose the one that can bring you satisfaction

I think you should try many things before sticking to one particular game. You should see the ups and downs and make up your own decision what's best for you. However it would be nice if you could do some winnings in a range of games. I mean it would be good if you can manage to play cash and mtts at the same time and make profits from both.

Sticking to one particular game is the way to go from my perspective. From my experience I started playing double up and acknowledge that it was the most comfortable game for me. I won over $300 from it, but got cocky and tried to spread my game to cash/ring. First I started doing well, but then I started losing little by little until I was down to $6. After that I realize my game lies with double up. Slowly I build up my bankroll until I was at $100 again. Now I stick with mostly double up where I definitely know I'm most comfortable. Sometime I throw a little change up and play one or two tournaments after maybe 10 game of double up. Never again do I play cash game even though it so addictive. I mean it is good to be well rounded but stick to your main game
