Cold wave of cards, how do I handle it?

Thats all I need when I step into real money play is a ****ty run of cards for a week and a day. What do I do to overcome this or is there anything i can do?

OY! I hear you on this one. My bad runs seem to last forever. But I think the main thing is patience, patience, patience. It can get irritating and not to mention boring when you go card dead. So the best thing to do is to practice patience, and wait for the cards to come.

If you find that your bad run is starting to effect the way you would normally play, it's time to take a little break. Maybe read up on strategies, etc. You'll come back refreshed and ready to go.

enough said.
well put by Tammy; basically you gotta make sure you don't start tilting and playing hands you wouldn't normally play.
Just be patient and wait it out, or take a little break and see how the poker gods are likin' ya after that

My VPIP used to be in the 17-20% range and one time I hit a downswing. I decided until it passed I would really tighten up my starting hands so much so that I would bring it down to 10-13%. When the downswing passed I could go back to playing normally again. It worked. But it worked so well i realized that this ultra tight style was an overall winning style and not just a quick fix.

Right now at .25/.50 my VPIP is 12.58% covering over 4300 hands played and a win rate of 3.07bb/100 hands. This is at full ring games, not shorthanded.

I know I don't have the standard 10,000 hands played at this level that is usually the defining point as to whether or not you can make any determinations, but all I can say is it seems to work well.

I don't know what limits you play, or if you play FR or SH, but my suggestion is to tighten up to say a 12% VPIP or lower and I think you will find your cold cards/downswing may end quicker than expected. You may even want to continue with this ultra tight style if you find it works well for you.

RE cold wave of Cards

Change your attitude or perception about crappy cards. Instead of complaining inside your head about the bad luck, tell yourself, good thing these cards are bad, it makes my decision that much easier. If you decide to play many second rate cards, you will connect on the flop, get commited, and lose more money with second best hands. Be thankful for bad cards.

I couldn't agree more. Luckily, online, we see alot more cards - so if you are patient, your good cards will come round much quicker than if you were playing a non-online game.

I'd say you try to take a few chances on some of those crap hands for cheap. Take advantage of your position and try to steal the blinds. If you have been patient for the past hour and start playing hands and raising, the other players will think you have a great hand becuase of the table image you created by folding, folding, and folding.

What Tiriel said is true, also to make the bad swing dissapear, open 4 or 5 .1c/.2c tables and play extremly tight there, this will make the cards zoom by and cut down variance ^_^
