Cold Streak?
Hey guys,
Did any of you ever had "cold" streaks, how long did it last and what did you do in the meantime? I was on a roll every since I started playing online poker, I would always triple my money within a couple of hours in a cash game. I would most of times make the right calls when I was put in an "all-in". But recently everything gone to hell...Pocket rockets busted by pocket Jacks, Divas busted by pocket 3's. Trips busted by flushes. You name it. Some are bad beats, some are legitimate losses. I didnt lose a considerable amount of money in this cold streak, but havent gained any ground either. What did you guys do about it? I mean, my poker ego has just tanked... Thanks! |

EVERYONE and Imean EVERYONE who plays poker has cold streaks or "downswings" during their careers.
No one wins during every session, it is impossible to repeat time after time. A good remedy to help kick you out ouf your downswing/bad cards etc. is to review hand histories where you lost some significant pots, by reviewing them you can see if and where you made a mistake or if you played the hand right and the cards didn't cooperate. Most of the major pokersites allow you to send yourself hand histories, I would definately take advantage of this feature. |

Yep, last night was ICE cold card wise! Played for 2 1/2 hours (double table for a lot of it), and hit 3 premium hands. Ended up just £20 down which I thought was good going, and I did enjoy the challenge, but I must have played 200+ hands and was only dealt 3 pairs (33 88 and QQ). Bet all the right hands pre-flop, but didn't flop a bean.
Never mind, there's always next time. |

2 schools of thought.
1) Play through the cold streak. 2) Take a break. I guess it depends on if you're letting it affect your play at all, going through hand histories or using PT or suchlike when you're done playing (and so can analyze hands while not 'tilted' in any way) can help you decide whether you are being affected. |

Yeah I am still in my cold streak on the Party network that has lasted an ungodly amount of time now although I dropped from 4000 hands a week to a thousand there, because of what was happening. No problem winning anywhere else just can't come out ahead there.

I will join you. Running bad is a fact of poker life, and I am currently running bad. I have taken some time off from playing, and using that time to study. I am enjoying taking it easy, and hanging out around town. I also have been playing Omaha and Omaha/8, I love these games.
xdmanx007 I am surprised to here that you are running bad at 1 establishment. That is interesting. what do you attribute that to? Different types of players, card at the one place just missing, playing style differences? I'd be curious if you could expand on that a little bit more. Bill |

Last nite on my RVP table, Rayzor1748, myself, Sammyv1, had been playing for a while when in "walked" Xdman. He promptly sat down, spanked my 2 pair flop, took my 10 bucks, and sat out. If this isn't a 1 hand cold streak I don't know what is...

Simply every possible miracle is falling against me at Party. I am playing well enough to win but the cards are just plain vicious there for some reason. I posted a couple hands awhile back in the hand analysis section but quit after the miracles were happening EVERY session. For examle got KK twice on Party last night both times I was up against pocket aces. Ace high flushes getting cracked by low straight flushes. If I hit a monster then my opponent pulls his 1 or 2 outs. If I hadn't made so much there in the past I would give up on them. So lately if I have someone dominate I best fold
. MyVpIp in PT, which is voluntarly put money in the pot is down around 12 percent during this streak so tightening up hasn't solved it. The conspiacy theorist in me notes, that I have withdrawn about 4 times as much as I have raked. ![]() |

Well
July was a cold month for me. I did not have a single winning session and lost about 60 dollars for the month. Not exactly as much as some people lose in their streaks, but well bad enough to know that a break was needed. The 2nd half of July I did not play any games for money and stuck to freerolls (which I also had some rotten luck in as well). August however has been a different story. 4 final tables in two weeks(although none were for real big $$$) and a rejuvenated cash game has me up about 130-140 dollars in real money and about 81 more bonus dollars at Ultimatebet.
My advice for a cold snap, do not play games for money unless they are freerolls. Take some time to look over your game and see if you are truly unlucky, or been making some bad plays, and maybe take some time off. Just know things will get better at some point. |

Wow 12%VpIp. When you enter pots Im amazed your getting played back at all. I usually am around 17 to 22%, and that's pretty tight. If I saw you pop into as few hands as you are, I'd fold almost everything. I'd be forced to respect it.

I have been on a huge cold streak for the past week or so. I swear I can't hti a flop for crap. It sucks. I also seem to always get a great hand and then someone has a better one. I've lost about$400 in this downswing...Half my bankroll.
I've decided what I'm going to do. Play the lowest limit I can for 100 raked hands a day, and then play the daily RVP $1,000 freeroll until I feel I should return to my normal game. I just can't stand to lose anymore money. I need it, poker is how I'm going to end up supporting myself through college, so I'm going to have to find a way around these cold streaks instead of trying to play through them and just losing even more money. Generally I am in the 17-22 percent range just like you but I felt I needed to tighten up on Party because of the streak. |

I just play tournaments when my cold streak is in full bloom. That way if they poker gods say I am doing too well it only costs me a few bucks. Also I tend to play a PS2 game when I am playing lately. So at least I can take my frustration out on a Zombie or any other random creature lol.
Cold streaks hit me but usually right before a hot streak or right after. So at least when it hits I know to lower my prices ![]() |

xdman, if I was you i'd give Party Poker a miss. You've obviuosly been spooked by the cards you've got which has taken you out of your natural game. There's plenty of other sites so cashout and delete program from your computer.
Cards on Noble flipped 180 last night. First hand in SnG I stupidly went all in after flopping small pair (to try and fend off flush draw). Opponent called cos he already hit flush, board paired when 2 came on turn, and another 2 came on river and made full house. I felt embarresed rather than pleased I was still in. 3 hands later QQ became QQQQ and another big pot - ended up winning tourney. Nice to be on the right end of these hands for a change. |

I had not had a very good week myself, finished on the bubble a lot. Some of this was my fault some due to bad cards. Last night probably played the best I have in a while, won a SNG at Royal Vegas and also one at JetSet. Layed down when I should, didn't chase, and stayed patient and picked my spots. Rings games haven't been very good to me in the last week which is why I went back to SNGs. Kind of like JetSet and their headhunter SNG format, software is smooth and reasonable quick. Probably take tonight off (wife isn't working) and then start back up with the buy-in on Saturday...

Ive had cold streaks for a couple of days tops. But since I won two mtts in one day on August 7th, I couldnt hit a barn door if my life depended on it. I dont mind being out played and I have been at times but I am constantly outdrawn or the cards just arent there.
Example, omaha hi low on noble last night. You would think this was an omaha hi game. There were hardly any qualifying lows. And when I had a decent hand like A245 I was getting counterfeited when I held A2, so if I used my 45 i would have to throw it away because some one had the three (the board had A278 as low cards). I had trips twice. Horrible hand for omaha fine if playing stud. My AQ or AK never hit so I dont play them. My KK and AA have been cracked. My JJ looked like a winner when shortstacked to AJ who of course hit a str8 to take me out. I went from making about $100-$120 for about 6 weeks straight in my freerolls and low $ buyins to $8 last week profit. This week nada... When life gives you lemons make lemonade.. And as Jerry Garcia sang... Nothing left to do but SMILE SMILE SMILE OMG!!! my bb kj just flopped KJ9.... I won the hand. The times are achangin I think. |

I just got back from a break and am on a freezing cold bad streak.
Lost over $100 in just over a week through my bad play and some seriously unlucky draws. I am gonna play some low limit for a while until I get some luck and my game back |

Cold streaks come and go. In my regular real-life games (once every two weeks), I had a horrendous time. Week one: all garbage hands, left early, only to have my wife ask, "Why are you home so early?" Week three: in the first 15-20 hands, I had QQ, AK, AA, AA pockets. Took second because some guy caught fire the second half of the evening. Week five: Had no better than 6-6 pockets. All my Aces were paired with off-suit low cards. Won only one pot before I limped out ... lol

On a frustrating cold streak at the moment, I've had 3-4 tables where I've had to play 40+ hands before getting a winner, and while my % of flops seen hasn't changed much compared to normal, my % win when seeing the flop has halved... when you only win 1 hand in 50 it's pretty damn hard to even break even playing Limit... I guess one approach is to play Pot Limit or No Limit as you can then make back more when you do finally hit a hand, and can try bluffing with the occasional junk hand...

cold streaks
COld streaks are the worst, however you need to take into account how much you win when u r hot as opposed to what you lose ont he cold streak. Play very tight on cold streaks and never get on tilt and u will survive.
