Class Speech on No Limit holdem, good idea? I have to give a informative speech on a topic that "interests me or I am somewhat of an expert in". Its for my COMS 100 college class and it has to be 5-7 minutes in length. Do you think this would be a good idea? I wouldn't even mention anything about money in the speech, just go over the basic gameplay, the styles of play, and the hand rankings. Or do you think the teacher might find it innappropriate because it has to do with gambling?

Is COMS about commerce? You can show people how profitable online poker rooms are. Those crazy rakes! If it is just about communication maybe telling an interesting hand story would be great.

you could talk about jerry yang, or absolute poker being rigged, but you might have a slight problem keeping it between 5-7 minutes...

re: Class Speech on No Limit holdem, good idea? poker Thanks for the replies guys. And yeah, I won't emphasize gambling very much. When I talk about the bets, I won't even say something like "20 dollars in the pot and a player bets 15 dollars", I'll just replace the word dollars with "chips".

The fact that you would even question if it's an acceptable topic makes me think that you should give a "defense of poker" type speech: Here is a nice article you might find helpful. I am assuming the assignment is designed as an exercise in public speaking, and therefore, you don't necessarily have to "write" the speech yourself, so as long as you site your source, you should be able to condense the article down to 7 min. of talking.
