The Chris Ferguson Bankroll Experiment

Well, I just found out about how Chris Ferguson turned $1 into $20,000. I hear that he is/was, I'm not sure, trying to turn $0 into $10,000. Have any of you guys seen him playing the lower limits? Is he still trying to do this? Thanks for the answers.

No, he did this awhile ago. He did it mostly multi tabling. Once he got started he was playing anywhere from 3 to 6 tables at a time.

Heard he's doing it using freeroll earnings... not sure how he's going to do it.

From what I read, he turned $1 into 20K using Ed miller's short stack theory in GSIH. Never risking 5% of his BR(except the beginning stages), buy-in for the minimum, shove with AA,KK,AK or something. Double up and leave, since he can never risk more than 5% of his BR at any given time.

He is currently doing zero to $10k. There is an interview with him in the current edition of Poker Player (UK).

At the time the magazine went to press, he was up to $340.

wow $1 into $20,000? I can see someone slowly grinding $100 into $20,000 but $1? That has to be harder than turning water into wine

I turned $0 into $49 over 3 months one time. Then I went on colossal tilt and blew it all in one night. It's tough, but it is doable.

Yeah, the GSIH method has been done to dead by a lot of people though. Nowadays, I'm wary of short stacks who open push. You might not get a lot of calls. Frankly, it's a boring way to play poker, if you're playing at all.

I tried it a few times, works when there's some clueless fish calling your open push with K9s against your AA.

I guess if you're on pokerstars, with $5, try it on the 0.01/0.02 NL and build it up to a substantial level and start playing real poker. It's really a 'system' for beginners with zero post-flop skills, to cut their teeth on.

P.S. I tried it when I was at empire poker, clearing my $50 bonus. I was 4-tabling with 20-25BB stack each, and basically folded everything 'cept for AA-QQ, AK. Raise Preflop, get a few callers and pushed on the flop. Sometimes I open push if there's a raise in front too. Once I drop below 15BB, I reload to the minimum.

Quite a feat turning nothing into negative value. *Starts a gradually slow golf clapping moment.

I never have turned $0 into $100 - but I turned $100 into 0 in one hand. I've heard the cliche "What goes up must come down"...but I think there is a good reason we never hear the reverse..."What comes down must go up." Besides, if I turned 0 into 100 and didn't blow it off right away I would probably lose my charter membership in the Donkey Club.
