Check Raise Issues I've been having some issues in dealing with check raises lately. Here is an example of what I mean: 1/2 NL Cash Game Let's say I have J-J in pocket. I raise to $8, 4x BB preflop from middle position, and get one caller from an original checker one position before me. Flop comes 10-7-2 rainbow He checks, I bet $14, he calls Turn is Q He checks I can do one of two things here, check or bet. Lately It seems like if I check he'll catch the A he has been fishing for on the river, and then I'm screwed on a river bet. If I bet, he makes a significant check raise, because he hit his card. This has been real hard for me to deal with lately. Kind of a catch 22! It's kind of a no win no matter which way I go. I realize this won't always happen, but seems to be a big mental block for me right now. It may not even be pp that I have, but I have top pair and suspect a guy is fishing, but he won't go away. Looking for suggestions or thoughts as how to handle these type situations. Good or bad, bring on the comments!

I think you should check to keep the pot smaller. If he's fishing for an A, there are only 3 left in the deck. Let him fish. By checking behind, you are reducing the betting rounds. I don't think you want to commit all your chips with only JJ.

I understand what you're saying that this is an ongoing delima not just based on the hand you described but on the hand you described. Your J's were weak once the Q came out. There are a ton of hands he could have been slow playing and allowing you to bet into him. QQ, KK, AA, AQ, AK, etc. Once the Q came he could have been 4 to the str8 with Q and 10 on the board. Some people have trouble letting go of this kind of hand. Also they could have had a lower pocket pair and hoping to fish for a trip on the turn or river. Had the Q not come on the turn I would say that if you honestly believe him to be fishing, make it an expensive fish fry. If you think you may be weak, you can check and see the next one for free, just expect him to bet up the next street once you show weakness and be prepared to cut it loose.
