Cheating in On Line Poker I just finished reading some articles on the Net about the 60 Minutes program about on line cheating. And, the fellow that could see the hands of other players at the table. Makes me glad I am a micro stakes and Freeroll player. Between the cheaters and the difficulty of withdrawing winnings from various poker sites. I believe I will stay a small timer. Plus, not good enough to win enough to worry about anyway. LMAO.

Its not so much "Online poker" in general, it would be foolish to assume that. What is the problem, is some poker sites have security issues and flaws in their staff and software, specifically UltimateBet. There has never truely been any cheating like this on FT or PS, the true problems stem from lesser websites.

I use online to sharpen my live game. At least it gives me more hands experience without the hour drive and bankroll damage. I doubt I could bring myself to play anything higher than the micro stakes. Anyone cheating on the .01/.02 level is just some sicko busting balls.

re: Cheating in On Line Poker Hey, From what I read it is Absolute Poker and UltimateBet. You can read it by go on Google and write in " On Line Poker Cheating on 60 Minutes Program. 60 Minutes had a TV program about the cheating. There is also a video you can watch where the cheater is seeing everyones cards at the table. Very interesting reading. Yea, just Google different statements and you will find a lot of information. Good luck, mange

There are volumes of info available on the UB AP story on this and other forums, this thread is not scratching the surface. Go and do your research. 60 Mins misrepresented a lot. Yes there is cheating online. First, look up the hundreds of threads already available before shooting in the dark about dead horses.

Not shooting in the dark. I was not shooting in the dark. Some of us have a life out side of poker and dont know everything as you apparently think you do. I put the thread out to solicite comments inorder to learn. Not have some one be critical of my thread. Learn some manners. mange

Like anything else in life, it's buyer beware. Take the time to observe a cash table before you start playing on it...a good poker player does that anyway. None of you guys have seen Rounders? You think live ring games are cleaner than online? Dream on. If you sit down at a cash game in Atlantic City of decent stakes, chances are pretty good at least half the table knows one another. Thank makes YOU the sucker, if you don't know anybody else. I'm not saying it's right, but, you gotta be CAREFUL where ever you play.

Eli Elezra has stated on TV that he's got multiple Full Tilt accounts. Did they do the same thing to him? No. Nobody seems to care if Guy Laliberte plays multiple accounts either. To be fair I think there have been other red pros that have been booted for similar violations. Names escape me though, and it certainly hasn't been any of the higher profile players. And (getting back to the OP) much though I hate to say it, learning to deal with cheats has been something poker players have had to do since year dot. It's always been an issue with live poker and while yes the AP/UB situation was terrible and needed to be addressed, it's a drop in the ocean compared to what's gone on in live poker over the years. The important thing is that legit players recognised the signs, warned each other about it and tried to get something done about it. That's all we can ever do, really. If we waited until poker was 100% free of cheaters, we'd never play another game again - live or online. If that's more risk than you're willing to accept then OK, but if you've made the choice to play I certainly wouldn't want to stay a "small timer" on that basis alone. |
