So this is what I'm reduced to... a charity poker tournament... <sigh>
Local Shriner's lodge is holding a benefit casino night next Saturday with some NLHE thrown in. $50 buy-in, one re-buy available. They are actually having a NLHE for Dummies class prior to the tournament. Although I know some of the guys that are playing, and they aren't slouches either.

This should be interesting... but I still miss my FullTilt. :(

33 days to Vegas...

Just not the same, is it? I miss FullTilt too. At least you're still finding avenues to play. Good luck in the tourney!

Well... that was fun.
I placed 2nd overall in a field of about 50-60. Lots of horrible play (as expected). Some real douche-bags, including the guy to my left who though he was Phil Helmuth with the sunglasses, iPod, and football jersey (he had a horrible tell - would shuffle his chips when he thought he had a hand). Pretty much tossed the heads-up final as I was down about 3-1 in chips. The guy I lost too was a really nice guy and really deserved the prize of 5-nights in Waikiki, Hawaii.

I had a chance to grab a $1000 seat at the wsop out of it, but decided to take the 2 nights at any Marriott property in the world. I probably would have sold the WSOP entry anyway, and I really didn't want to take another trip up to Vegas just to take a shot. The PH wannabe was so happy... he took it. I told him I want 10% if he cashes. I doubt it - the way he played. If it had been $1500 I probably would have grabbed it, but oh well... I was into it all for $50. No rebuy, no add-ons. There were guys there throwing over $200 at it and still couldn't place.

As for my play... meh. Second hand in I made the mistake of slow playing KK in early position, the board ran out a straight, and villian ended up making a higher straight. I proceded to get KK twice more through the night, and made a huge profit on it each time. Never got AA once. Did get a boat with pocket ducks over Jacks (got paid off).

One fun one: short-stacked late position on the bubble 10K/20K/ante3K, UTG limped, guy to my left made it 40K to go, I shoved over the top for about 4K more. Both called - I think I had them coverd. Early fipped over 77, both of us turned over AKos. We spiked an Ace on the flop and went on to chop a huge pot. Turned out he and I would end up 1 & 2 in the tournament about a half an hour later.

Best part about the whole night. I didn't panic when the blinds got huge. I didn't play garbage. I even threw away AQ in position against a huge re-raise in front of me just after the bubble burst (was a good fold BTW). I even started getting good at counting people's stacks vs. the blinds (that's rare for me).

Hey nice run, and for a good cause too! I take it you didn't have to rebuy at all?

Thanks. Nope. I never was felted in the first hour. They had a 5K chip add-on for $25 at the break, but I was already at about 12K at the time and was chip leader at the table.

Congrats on the deep run mate. I probably would have taken the seat at the world series though haha =P. Sounds like you played well.

Nice job, mate. U played well. How does it feel for the US player to be "banned" from full tilt. Must be a hard time. I couldn't imagine this situation.

Great job. I know your pain when it comes to FT. Sad thing is, I don't think the U.S. will ever let them do business here again which sucks because it was a great site to play on. As for the lay down of A-Q, I throw that hand away a lot these days. I HATE that hand, LOL.
