Casino Chip Race Who was right in the following situation. A tournament at my local casino and it was the final table. The TD was doing the chip ups, and was then doing a chip race with anyone who had odd chips left over. There were 3 lots of chips to give out, and the dealer did the chip race with the cards face up. One person had an ace, and one person had a king so they got a chip each. The next highest card was a 10, which two people had. The bloke with the 10 of spades starts going mad at the decision to deal them an extra card each, stating that the 10 of spades should take it because of the suite. The TD was saying "suites are not part of poker, my decision is final". I agree with the TD, but this bloke didn't stop moaning about it the whole final table, and was getting annoying. I know this doesn't *really* matter much, but wish he would have shut up going on about it, lol.

Depends on the room... Every live tourney I have ever played in used suits to determine chip race ties. From Wiki, "Most poker games do not rank suits; the ace of spades is just as good as the ace of clubs. However, small issues (such as deciding who deals first) are sometimes resolved by dealing one card to each player. If two players draw cards of the same rank, one way to break the tie is to use an arbitrary hierarchy of suits." So neither of them were "wrong" but both could have handled it differently.

Good point Daxter - I mean, for this to even come up, he's gotta be losing the minimum: a single chip of the lowest possible denomination. If he had more than one, he'd have had a second card to refer to as the tie breaker. That's really worth getting stressed out over? Pretty much all the games I work use the round up system as well. It's just easier, everyone understands it and is generally much happier about it.

re: Casino Chip Race poker Well the thing is the bloke got dealt the higher card the second time round, so he actually won the chip. His argument was that he thought the TD was wrong and the way the TD said "my decision is final" was wrong. It seems like a lot of places actually use the ranking of suites, which has suprised me a bit. Not that it really matters like I said, but the bloke was annoying!

Wow - there are some things you can argue, but trying to argue with a TD's right to the final decision?!? After the decision has been in your favour?!? There's just no pleasing some people, huh... |
