Cash games vs sit n gos Hi all, I've been playing for a week after a two year break from poker. I'd like to ask the experienced players here what the difference between cash games and sit n gos is really? I'm quite successful in (the lower stakes) sit n gos but I'm losing in Cash games. What is so drastically different between the two? Matt

huge differance. but briefly, cash games your playing generally pretty deep 100bb stacks, sng's you start out with 75bb's and your playing wiht much shallower stacks. In sng's you need to worry about tournament equity, as each chip doesnt equal the $$ amount. in cash games you don't need to worry about it. Sng's your forced to make moves, cash your not. In general, cash games are a postflop game, sng's are a preflop game, thus, sng's should be easier for learning players to start out on. Of course, your sample size needs to be large to even consider yourself 'successful'. For example, you want about 1000 games at a certain level, to even tell if your a winning player or not..

WiZZiM speaks the truth. You're almost always deep stacked in cash games, so you need better hands to justify playing for bigger pots. Also, you don't *need* to eliminate people, so risky behavior is not as big of a requirement for success. Another big advantage for cash games is that you can pick your tables. Picking a good table is a *major* factor to maximizing your return. Likewise, if a table sours you can leave any time you want.
