Button, button - Who's got the button?
This is kind of a weird anecdote/question, please bear with me:
I noticed that in tournaments, when I get the button for the first hand, I place higher. I'm curious. Is it a purely psychological edge or a real edge? |

How long are these tourneys? and what about all the players on the other tables with the button - do they do well
Would be great if that was an actual indicator but as it is, its more than likely a lucky coincidence ![]() |

Well technically you'll have position more in the tournament, but that more is only going to be at most one round for any one person. If you play a few hundred rounds of blinds that one will hardly make a difference. Plus that one round is when the blinds are the lowest, so on average you may have a few extra chips. But when you need thousands or tens of thousands to even money in the tournament, a few chips early on really won't make much of a difference. Mostly it's just how well you play and how good you run.

I think it's obvious that getting the button first is the indicator that things will be rigged in your favor for that particular tourney. If you are given the golden button you should go all in on the first hand with A2C to double or even triple up right away.

I figure the only advantage you personally will get is a psychological one, one which might give you a false sense of invincibility ultimately leadng up to you having a slight edge when taking risks at crucial moments.

Well I figured it was psychological. Hey, any edge is still an edge right? Hehe, kinda like Dumbo's feather.
Though some of the responses have me giggling really hard. I'm silly sure, I own that. I'm not the greatest and don't pretend to be, but... All-in? WTF? Hahaha, I'm not that kind of girl. Oh sure there are times when I'm left without a choice but all in all I hate going all-in pre-flop. Maybe it's just me. |
