BRM management and rebuy tourneys

So for the sake of argument, let's assume I am following Ferguson's bankroll management outline. According to his rules, you are not allowed to buy in for more than 2% of your bankroll in a MTT. However, it makes no mention of rebuy/addon tournaments, where your actual buy in can end up being much more than just the initial buy in.

Using the lowest rebuy tournament (that is not a satellite) on pokerstars as an example, it would cost $3.30 for the inital buy in. To use proper BRM (according to Ferguson), one would need $165 to play in this tournament. If we assume that you will get the add on for the addition $3 at the first break, our new buy in total is $6.30, which would require us to have $315 to play in the tournament. This is not even factoring in rebuys, which really can't be estimated very easily, as one could have a rush of cards to start and not need one (or an addon for that matter), or be card dead and rebuy multiple times.

So what should we consider as properly bankrolled for the $3.30 rebuy on stars? $165 for the intial buy in, or $315 assuming we add on? Or maybe a different amount?

I would say you would want at least 4 buy-ins to be within your bankroll so with the 3.30 rebuys you should look at it as a $12.30 tourney try to have around 600 in your bankroll to play it and maybe more depending on how you play.

Here is a good article in the strategy section about different forms of attack for rebuy tournemants Rebuy Poker Tournament Strategy - Part I if you go the looser style and tend to double rebuy 3 or 4 times a tourney obviously you would want much more cushion then 4 rebuys.

I factor in all the rebuys and the addon.
Basically, if I have $300 available and want to play a $5 rebuy, then I may rebuy once and buy the addon or rebuy twice and not buy the addon. I won't rebuy a third time because at that point I would have spent more than 2% of my bankroll on the tournament.
