break from poker

i decided id take a break from poker. i was loosing money and what was a knack i had for the game. And was really wondering how long everybody else has breaks for?
and i might only freeroll when i come back due to loss of funds

I think taking a break is good. I havent seen many questions asked about it so
its good you asked. I took a 2 month break about a year ago cuz i lost about 200 dollars in my br in a month. I just needed to get away

If you are losing the feeling to play, a break is good.
If it is just for running bad, sometimes switching the games you play can be a nice refresher.
I tend to get sick of hold em from time to time, and switch over to the 8 game for a break and usually come back refreshed.

I take breaks when I know im either playing badly(tilt/spewing) or whenever something in life is more important cus i can really play and grind it out sometimes...

all in all, breaks are really good and imo a must for all players!

Taking breaks from time to time can be great for your game. Poker should be taken seriously, but you always have to remember, unless you are playing for a living, poker is a hobby. And you should enjoy playing the game. Taking a break from sitting at a table and playing can be great for your game. Got get a book that you've been meaning to read and don't come back to the table until you've read it at least once. That should give you plenty of time to relax but also improve your game.

I read a piece by Tom Dwan once in which he said it needed to be a complete break of at least a week. Otherwise, his logic went, your brain scramble carried over.

Personally, I find a couple of days does the trick.

I took a break for about 6 months and just cleared my head. I came back with a feresh out look and did really well for a while after that. If you play everyday you kinda get burned out on it especially if you are losing

I was playing holdem and got burnt out , switch over the omaha and played for about a month. Then whenback to holdem. Started enjoying th game again

Problem is getting your head back into the game. The biggest problem with having massive breaks from poker is that you forget your ratios. Poker is a game that takes time to perfect. Lower the luck side of things and increase the chances.

I have been on a break for about a year and just started playing again recently.I have to say I am playing much better than I have in quite awhile.

all players have been on breaks. i usually take a week off or so just stay away from poker and it seems that i do a lot better when i come back and play

okay guys! my break was the best advice i ever gave myself.
i play low stakes, couple of dollars mostly. to challenge myself. i went broke on full tilt. come back and i am on fire!
my reads are disgustingly accurate!

I'm on a break right now. I did a 7 day self-exclusion from Poker Stars. I may make it longer because I am still feeling the tilt that caused my break. I pretty much lost $490 in one hand. I don't think I would have tilted so bad if it wasn't a hand a shouldn't have been in. My play was bad. I got greedy.

i think you should take a break for 2 weeks. i personally do that. But it's up to you
i am on a break now and this is what i'm doing, reading forums and poker articles, playing freeroll poker and that's all.
this is like in body building ... did you know that the most important time for your muscle to grow is when you rest? If you would work out without resting, your muscles will consume themselves.
It's kind of the same idea
Rest untill you feel better and stronger than before. It's just about your ability to recover after this. Trust your instincts

I've been running well for a few weeks now, but been putting at least one 3 hour session in every day, sometimes two or three (was on a weeks holiday from work last week, so hit it hard!). Managed to grind up to silver star on Stars within 5 days of the month starting, but was just about burned out.
I've now had two days off without even switching my laptop on, never mind playing a session, and the result is, I'm feeling fresh and actually looking forward to knocking off work and getting home to hit the tables.
Plus I'm on 1.5 vpp's with my star rating! result!

I am gettin frustrated already and I am a beginner..just seeing all the bad players who play lucky and all the good players who get no luck..
i think I am in between ...I think I play quality hands but never seem to break thru..maybe A break is in order..

Luck is the same for everyone, even if it sometimes doesn't seem like it.

It's variance. Something that you must come to terms with if you ever
hope to be successful at the game.

Make the correct decision for each situation you are faced with. Nothing
else matters.

If you're 'taking breaks', it's because you a) are probably not as good as
you think you are and are getting frustrated because you are losing (this is the choice most applicable to me) or b) have not yet come to terms with variance or c) all of the above.

It's probable that it's choice c. The normal variance of a deck of cards in poker can lead to some horrifying dry spells even if you play well. Add in just a touch of poor decision making and now that variance, if things go poorly, can lead to a death spiral of losing.

Take a break, sure. Nothing wrong with that.

Use the time to improve your game, and learn a little more about variance and how to handle it.

Take a break as long as you want to as long as you don't feel like playing don't play, I didn't play for a year and it felt pretty good but it all depends on the person and if there serious about poker money wise.

I need a break myself!!! too much poker has me wanting to hurt people!! lol
