BR building online, how I went from 50$ to 10000$
Early on I played mainly sitngos with pretty good success. As that progressed I hit a wall and went down to less than 5$ at one point. I built it back up by playing turbo 1$ sitngos and worked my way up to 22$ turbos. From there I started entering the guarantee tournaments offered at fulltilt and I realized that the play there suited my game the most. I've been grinding away at those tournaments, a final table here, another there and in 2 months have made about 10k profit. I just think that everyone here should give a shot at MTT instead of grinding it out in cash games all the time.

My grind is currently going with your strategy, sort of. Playing low-buy in SNG's continually, set a goal for myself before I move up, as well as down. The only difference is, I'm not playing any MTT's at the moment. I may try to fit one in a night now, just to try and get the extra boost. Good job!

If you want all that info look me up on a ranking site that does MTT. The first ones I did were 26$, and the newest one was 109$ I think. But my OPR name is somedude1311 so just look it up and check out my history of tourneys and it will answer all your questions pertaining to that.

Hey! At what site do you play?
I did the samething, turned $200 in to $40,000 in 4 months, but only at cashgame, but then my luck turned up side down and now I'm down to $10,000. Find it hard to play at a lower limit when you have been playing higher before. It's so easy to try the high limits again and if you get some bad luck you lose a lot of money and that quick. |

Marvelous stories, and even if they are total BS, which I am not saying they are, they provide hope to us po folk.
The trick however is to not force us into researching your particulars. Rather post some convincing stats or images that really wet our appitites. A path history of sorts, might make your article more compelling, and certainly your story more palitable. |

I disagree with the OP, I think long term you are going to make a lot more consistent money playing cash games vs. MTT. If you find a level you can dominate at cash game you should be winning the majority of the time. At least for me I find cash games are a lot easier to beat consistently.

I've checked the records on somedude1311 at Full Tilt on onlinepokerrankings.com and sharkscope.com - you are up $10k or so on MTTs, but $6K of that is due to 2 big cashes in the last week (congrats!). You're almost $1K down on the SnGs. The big Mtt wins are variance - please, treat the $5K cash yesterday as a one-off and go back to the $26 games, i'd hate for you to lose it all back (i'm sure you're not the first player to think he's got it solved after a month of hitting everything - i certainly did).

I'm sure if I had won 10k in 2 weeks playing MTT and lost 1k playing playing SNG's I would stick to the MTT. |

congrats on the two big cashes, if you feel more comfortable playing MTTs then you should continue to do so. I dont know if I could ever bring myself to put 109 dollars down for one tournament.

um i think rob's message was more of a PSA than a post that was meant to pick him apart. the vibe i got from it was "hey nice wins but be careful, it could easily be MTT variance."

Great advise here........ you hit a couple big cashes and all of a sudden you think you can do no wrong...... I know somedude (the sauce) and he's a good guy to play against. I would hate for him to lose the $$$ as well. Stay at the level where you have the most success!! Way to Go Sauce/dude! |

This thread was initially started to inform people that didn't know how great of a BR builder online MTT can be, and how my experience playing them has been better than live MTT (which is odd). The reason for this is because I think I play a multitude more of the MTT online than is possible live. I stick to the rules, never letting the MTT games I enter exceed 3% of my BR. I appreciate the constructive criticism, but I feel this is getting way out of hand when people think I'm being dishonest about something that could potentially be serious. My offer still stands to find me on somedude1311 and play with me and ask me all the questions you want.

The congrats at the end with the exclamation mark looks like sarcasm to me, if I am wrong then I apologise. G-man |

It depends on what u want
I have put some though into this and I feel, for me, the strategy is as follows...
I can understand someone playing poker as an income playing ring games - more regular cash. Finally, I can understand what some of the guys are saying about a couple of big wins in a short period. The same happened to me last year. I turned a $200 starting bankroll into $6k at the end of last year. When I looked back, this was because of a few big wins in MTT. This year I`m $614.87 down . This is due to playing ring limit games. I had a major blast this year for the first time playing cash, and for some reason I struggle to get away with it ![]() |
