Bored With Poker? Tired of losing? Tired of beats?

This is some sort of a spin off from part of AG's thread (http://www.cardschat.com/f13/cardschat-forum-99173/). Lately I have not been playing too much poker. Last time I had a large session was before and after the CC events on full tilt on Sunday. Then I played a 180 SNG on tuesday. That was the last time I played.

I do not know if I am bored with poker now or if I am tired of getting bad beats, but I have not had the real motivation to play. Although I am not playing, I am still on CC posting away, giving advice, cracking jokes, and starting threads, but the actual need/want to play is kind of dying away.

Maybe personal problems that are going on right now are keeping me away from the felt but I do not think that is it either.

Are there any suggestions to curing this "disease"?

Has anyone else felt this way lately or have dealt with this feeling in the past?

What have you done to overcome this?

Any thoughts?

I have had similar notions though. I have been playing a lot of solitaire, and other online games such as this one (http://www.miniclip.com/games/bloxorz/en/) [so addicting]

Maybe this is the type of thing that I need?

Sounds pretty natural. Unless you a person making thier living playing poker, your interest will peak and valley. Take a break don't play for a while. The next thiing you know after a couple of days, weeks or months you probably find yourself in a conversation with someone about poker and realize you have the passion to play back.

Yes. Also I think it's best to focus on a game that's strictly skill rather than some skill some luck etc.

i agree these phases are pretty natural. and i'd say it goes even for many of those who do make their living playing poker. daniel negreanu, in his blog, has detailed a lot of peaks in his interest as well as time where he's straight skipped important tournaments he'd planned to attend because he just wasn't "feeling it".

chess is a good idea. and i'm checking out this bloxorz thing now

It is not a disease. I think it is a natural cycle. Take a break. Do something rewarding that doesn't involve a computer. These damn things have a way of burning into your brain and killing all the fun genes sometimes.

Sorry, I'm a bit depressed.... got rivered six times in the last six hands I was involved in. Wait... Whew... thought for a minute my AA was going to get cracked.

When that happened to me, I formalized it into a Hiatus. I might be due for a fresh Hiatus come the beginning of the year.

During my Hiatus, I only stopped playing, not learning, thinking or posting poker. It was good, and mine was only 1 week long. My overall game changed for the better in a bigger way than I expected.

Yep, about every other month. Poker is a sickeningly hard game to stick with.

Well believe it or not, Nike's slogan actually helps me out a lot - just do it. I find myself doubting my play every so often; sometimes after a big winning or losing streak and I don't want to go on a big downswing (or continue one) so I don't play. Then I force myself to play a couple STTs or something, and I'm right back in it.

If you're generally not interested in playing then don't force yourself. I've been on month-long breaks before just because I got sick of poker.

I just returned to poker from a 2 week break. I initially went on the break because I was on a horrible downswing. Looking back I can see where that downswing was at least in part precipitated by being bored with playing.

The break has made a lot of difference. I'm having fun playing poker again, I'm able to keep my focus and I'm not overly concentrating on results.

Felt like that a couple of weeks ago, was soooooo bored with online after playing live 4/5 time. I donked all my money away, sort of on purpose and had zero on all 3 of my accounts.

Decided to challenge myself after reading Snowmans blog and reading the $2 challenge thread. And enjoying it again.

Not annoyed at donking my money, i felt I needed to be cleansed and start again.

It happens, if you start to play when you don't want to or when you are on an horrible streak and playing bad, I think this crosses the line from avid player to degen.

I get rages where I'll play 2k hands in a session and sometimes I can go 2 weeks without even thinking about playing when I have more important/urgent stuff do to (work, school, sex).
