Poker - Booted out of the local home game.

Well I've been playing in the same home game now for about 6 months and it's been great. One of those where they are there to play cards and I am there to play poker. I've pretty much got this game whipped now and it has taken its toll. I've been asked not to return. It is my understanding that people are tired of me walking away with the money more often than not. Funny how it wasn't a big deal when they were sucking out on me.
I've mentioned the cards chat site to several of the players there and how it has helped my game soooooo much. I do a lot more reading than posting so I thought I would take this morning to share what this site has done for me. Since I've been given the boot there was 1 fellow player that has shown some interest in getting better and has taken me to the casino a few times. I haven't broke the bank but I have mad a little money, and I mean dam little. Focusing a lot on the 1/2 NL games. He is amazed at how much I fold compared to him. He doesn't understand how I can be happy winning a measley 30 bucks in the casino. I try to explain to him I'm happy with any winning session because of the time I take studying and reading and playing. I say 30 up is better than 500 down. I'm sure anyone can agree with that. So as I slowly move my way up the ranks I just wanted to say thanks to all of you here at cards chat for posting and teaching and answering all sorts of situations. If it wasnt' for you I probably wouldn't have gotten the boot, but I also might not of taken the step I need to get my ass at the real tables. Thanks again! |

Congratulations on the improvements in your game OP.
FWIW, I figure fish management (for want of a better term) can be a very useful skill to learn if you're playing live. On the internet where there's endless amounts of action available it isn't such a big deal but live if you've found yourself a juicy game you obviously want to be able to stay in it as long as possible. Maybe next time you find one of these games, don't crush them quite as badly. Maybe even have a night or two where you play crazy and lose - then try to milk them for more over a longer time ![]() |

Got invited to a neighborhood game a couple weeks ago. Nothing big, just a half dozen or so guys (a couple really just learning the game for the first time) playing a few little $10 buy-ins every other Friday night or so. Took two out of three that night, so I'm hoping I get called to play again. They loved the Copags I brought much more than the cheapo paper cards they were using, so I may get back in just for that.
