Book reviews: What would you want to know?
I've talked some to Nick about extending the articles section with some (more) book reviews, and offered to make some write-ups. Before going at it, though, I'd like to hear from you (the presumed readers) about what you would want to know about a book.
Now, I won't be writing critiques of the individual books, necessarily, in the sense of dissecting the strategies they contain. That sort of discussion is much more suitable in the Strategies forum (and while on that topic, I would find such threads very interesting*, but it's not in my scope for a review). Therefore, the reviews wouldn't be aimed at people who own or have already read the book. So, presuming I write a review about a book you haven't already read or own, what kind of information would you want before deciding to buy it? For example: * "Who is the book for", I could explain who I think the book would suit, or how the information contained within it should be treated by different levels of poker competence. * "I own book A, B and C... Is there any point in getting book D?". I could try to answer this, but it kind of depends on whether or not I've read all of books A, B and C, of course. What would YOU like to know about a book before investing, say, $20? I'll bring my own perspective on the books, of course, and give my views on disposition, readability and content, but for reasons mentioned above I won't be digging into criticism of the strategies presented. Let me know! Cheers, FP * In fact, I think I'll go start such a thread right now! |
