betting patterns i was watching a $200 buy in MTT today and noticed some very predictable patterns, which struck me as odd at that limit. Blinds 400/800 with 100 ante. 5 players left, trading chips back and forth from 18k-30k range of stacks. standard opening raise was 2400 as you would expect. I saw this happen quite a few times for both instance. open raise to 2000. monster hand, begging to get raised. open raise to 3000. AQ/AJ/At or very small pocket pair. Is this normal for that limit. Seemed very predictable to me. I watched for a good while and thse 5 just traded chips and swapped blinds several times

All good players usually bet the same thing regardless of what they are holding. This helps disguise there hands and sets them up for big paydays when they hit there nut payday hands. There are also fish at any table limits so definitely understand that alot of people have alot of money to throw around and lose. I encourage those people to keep playing as they are the ones that support my paychecks coming in weekly. Lmao got to love them fools!!! Unlucky79

Pretty typical. Just like Nascar - jockeying for position. Although I wouldn't say betting patterns were identifiable if you couldn't see all the hole cards to every hand. Part of the secrets to making it that far is NOT providing dependable reads to other players.

You must first put together the pieces that form the betting pattern puzzle of a player. You have to determine what kind of player he is and the kind of betting pattern he follows before you can start applying betting patterns. The best way to fit the pieces together is to take it easy the first five or 10 hands and watch other players show down a few hands. If a player doesn't show them down, just watch the way he likes to bet and make predictions about his hand. Eventually you'll get vibes on the way he likes to play certain hands.
