I've actually wondered about drug testing and professional poker players.
Performance, endurance, calm-those-jittery-hand drugs... But figured testing would never happen cause the casinos are handing out the drinks. But if it were to be considered a sport, and not played in casinos--ok, ok, you can blame it on the vicoden. |

Caffeine and taurine (ingredient in most energy drinks) will help you pay attention at first, but you'll crash after a few hours. They may also affect your patience and can cause tremors if you have too much.
Adderall is probably the most effective, but it requires a prescription and it's not indicated for playing poker. Edit: Adderall is not methamphetamine. It is an amphetamine/dextroamphetamine combination similar to methamphetamine. Meth is stronger (more effective), but also more dangerous... gotta take the good with the bad. Both are prescription but methamphetamine is not prescribed very much anymore due to safety. Adderall (or similar) is used instead. Last edited by Chase_0101 : 02-10-2007 at 6:46 AM. |

I don't mean to advocate drug usage, but I have played a few tourney's on adderall and I don't think my reads or level of concentration has ever been that high. It was amazing while I played, but it is worth mentioning I stayed up for over 36 hours on it, and that wasn't fun. But as far as the mary jane goes, I don't think its that bad of an influence.

Rethinking the alcohol thing after the loss I had last night. Started off with a double burbon and moved on to B52s. I think I am better off letting someone else encourge others to drink.
Wasn't drunk, but I think I will blame my losses on it. I'll have to conduct an experiment and see if I play better while drinking of without. It takes what 100 samples to make a viable survey, so I'm not so sure I want to try that experiment. Think I'll stick to chocolate milk... |
