Bankroll

Hi again guys.

So, I just cashed decently in a tournament and started myself up a bankroll of 30ish dollars. What type of games should i continue to play in order to continue my bankroll? How should I manage this bank roll?

$30 is not really a bank roll that would allow you to apply the normal bankroll rules. I am not sure if you are a memeber of the freeroll club yet and if not I would suggest that you work at that and get yourself into the CC free rolls. Keep your $30 and be patient and work at increasing it through the CC freerolls. With a bit of patience and solid play it should not take you long to build your bankroll up to $100. If you do want to risk your bank roll then play the CC buy in games. Normally $5.50 buy in but always great value.

I feel that i could play fruit flies or dragon flies slowly and get a decent ROI, but it seems like such a big gamble :O.

I would play 2NL full ring with that BR, but I guess you like tournaments right?

I definitely like tournaments more as I have really bad swings in cash games. Whats the difference between full ring and 6max? Does one have more action than the other? Is there different strategy involved?

yes different strategy involved. full-ring is better for beginners. 6max you need to be more aggressive and better at hand reading.

If you are quite inexperienced at cash games it would be best to do some reading on strategy before embarking because you will need to play differently to how you have been playing in tourneys.

Your other option is to play very low (less than $1) buy in SNGs or MTTs.

If this is on Carbon and you want to stay playing tourneys you should just play the Quarter Quickys and Fast Fiftys. Rake is a bit high at 20% but the games should be really soft. Haven't played many of them so not sure but it's almost certain that they have soft fields.

I have small bankrolls like yours on many sites and I can play as often as I like cause I just do small buyins and if get ITM a couple of times, I will treat myself to a bigger buy in. CANT EMPHASIS THIS ENOUGH, forums can help build your BR big time (the games they offer). For any of the nonsense you have to do to get in, its well worth the effort to stay in. ALso playing these folks will sharpen your game, aint like none of em will give you a break LOL. I look at these games as they type of players that would be in the final 30 anyways, just without the gigantic stacks they would of had if we had 300 man MTTS

I'm not a proponent of applying BRM guidelines strictly to small rolls that aren't too hard to replenish if you run bad and go bust. That doesn't mean it's okay to use the entire $30 to buy into only a couple of tournaments. However, I don't have a big issue with, for example, playing $2.20 or $3.30 tournaments even though you don't have 20 buyins which is the smallest number commonly suggested.

OTOH, if you feel it would take a long time and/or a lot of effort to get back to $30 if you go broke, then you'd be better served to apply a more conservative guideline, say 30 buyins, which would mean not playing anything over $1.

And if you prefer tournaments, stick to them. There's plenty of time to learn how to play cash after you improve your MTT game enough and to know you're +EV at low stakes and after you've accumulated a few spare dollars you can set aside for ring games.

Pretty much agree with Arjonius on this. Strict BRM for tournaments would limit you to tournys under $1 and that's fine, but there is nothing wrong with playing slightly larger ($1- $2) once in awhile assuming that your BR can be topped-up if it gets too low.

What I do is if I get a decent cash in a tourny I'll mentally set aside a portion of that money to play tournys that are slightly over the level I normally play. For example, I win $20. The first $10 I allow myself to choose of several options from higher buy-in tournys (1 ten doller shot, 2 $5 tournys, etc) however I choose to divide it. The other $10 in winnings just gets added to my normal BR, so it is growing all the time too.

You probably shouldn't jump back and forth too much between cash games and tournys, especially at first. Entirely different game. If you are going to play cash games, I'd start with FR, its generally more straight-forward. 6-max tends to be significantly more aggro and puts you in awkward situations a lot as you are forced to play OOP more and defend your blinds which come around a lot more quickly.

Play $2 double up sit and goes till you get to about $60 and then play $5 double ups

Agree with what's been said here. If the $30 is easily replaceable should you go bust, then your entire bankroll isn't truly $30 IMHO. I mean there is no point in playing in .25 or .50 cent buy in tourneys trying to build it up is going to be a waste of time if you can easily replace the $30 should you go busto in say $2 buy in tournaments. There is really no point in applying the strictest BRM strategies that pros use if you aren't a pro or making your living doing this. Now if losing the $30 = you can't play poker anymore, then obviously you need to be much more cautious and probably should be playing as many freerolls as you can to add a little more to your bankroll before you start trying to build it up.

Grind up using the 25c/50c MTT SNGS. Also play the FPP frerolls and the 100k depositor freerolls. The latter are incredibly easy to cash in. Other than that you should just play 2NL and when you hit $40 you are then rolled for it, so you can then play 2NL comfortably (if you're not already).

Just to add to this, if you are new to poker you should play the cheapest games possible to learn the game while minimising your invevitable losses. It takes a while to get to grips with the basics and once you've got them down you can think about taking shots using more aggressive BRM.

I'm a believer in shot-taking with a small roll. If you can top it up if you bust account then just play $1-$2 games and reload if you bust.

I think it's best to play $1-$2 Mutli-table and Sit-n-go tournements.

There's no need to play higher stakes until you build a stronger BR
