Badbeat Threshold

Whats the threshold for a bad beat? Any coinflip you lose, underpair, 3 outer, runner runner?

<100% in my opinion. I hate it when I'm a 95-5 dog and although the math says I should have 5% equity in the pot I end up with 0%. Poker sucks.

Any hand that i'm a 90% favorite after the flop. For example i am in the bb and get dealt J 6 off two callers utg +2 and sb. Flop come J, 3, 6 sb checks i bet 2x bb utg +2 folds sb pushes all in, I call he turns over K,10 off . I am now a 98% favorite to take the pot. Turn is a K, River is a 10. Badbeat.

Yes this is sarcasm btw, basically what I'm trying to say in all seriousness is that if you play a lot of poker, there's really no such thing as a bad beat. Of course when you lose when your money's in as a 90% favorite it sucks, but you'll have hundreds of those in your career. You're SUPPOSED to lose 10% of them, so it's going to happen many many times. Play long-term and bad beat has no meaning.

Ok that would be <5% runner runner category. I really thought 50/50 was going to be runaway winner here. Agreed zach, badbeats are just +EV, i like to multiply my odds by the pot and imagine I just won that amount because in long run I have.

well even looking at it that way, i'd still say there are bad beats with real meaning. consider a final table of the WSOP ME, where the player 2nd in chips loses a 2 outer all-in to the chip leader. the long-term will never make up for the ridiculous life changing amount of equity lost there. doesn't have to be such an extreme example either. same can hold true, to a lesser degree, for other major tournaments. i truly feel for those who get massively screwed over on such a large scale that can never be made up for. it's poker, but it's got to mess with you psychologically
