Bad luck/Bad beat, what does it all come down to?

Bad luck and Bad beats are they really controllable, or aren't they? First and fore-most I want u all to understand my thinking, luck, and a bad beat are 2 different things IMO, I mean really luck is something that we can't controll, that's out of realm of controlability, now as for a bad beat, that is something we could controll, by this I mean, If say u hold AA, and u choose not to raise with it, now who's at fault, since your going to have so many ppl behind u calling. I mean really, u can't blame The pokersite for your own misfortunes since u chose to limp in with them correct, but at the same time u could controll how much u lose, by this I mean with 4 ppl behind u, and all 4 go allin if u still chose to call that's ur own fault correct, another prime example of this is the all in preflop play also, this is just me I really hate the all in move, and then when ppl complain that they lost because of a dumb call or W/E, the question that comes to my mind is who forced you to push? It wasn't I, the pokersite, it was by your own choice, there-fore resulting in you losing and saying u got bad luck or it was bad beat or just bad luck, I really hope this makes any sense at all

You are confusing "bad beat" with "bad play" I often confuse those two at the poker table myself.

Now. I know it is not all black and white. Can you slowplay your AA? Sure you can. Does it ever make sense? Sure it does, but most often its good to play them hard.

But getting AA beat because you let 4 others see the flop: Is NOT a bad beat.

But it's in that gray zone where the play is more questionable that profit is kept, if not made.

What we have control over is bad play. Otherwise you'd have to have control over what card comes out on the river...

Then you'll also end up with broken legs.

Bad luck truly hurts. However, in my experience most people that cry about bad beats allowed them to happen, and then it becomes bad play that hurt you. How many BB special have we all seen, if the player with the pkt AA would have raised pre-flop instead of slowplaying most BB would fold with the 7,2 off suit (for example). But if I'm in the BB and I can just check and then hit huge on the flop, I am not folding because you now over bet your 1 pair even if it is Aces.

your going to get bad beats no matter what. yesterday I had AA and played them hard with a pot raise.

flop: (A) (K) (K) (laughed my ass off)
DEVILRAISE: all in
player 1: calls (after he called I thought he flopped a set of K or had big slick with that call)

DEVILRAISE: AA
PLAYER 1: KK
(I wanted to puke)

and thats my point, I did nothing wrong there at all, but ran into a wall, my boat got sunk by quads, now thats a real "bad" beat. could'nt even go to sleep last night from it and im still tilting a little, and its 24 hours later now haha! and I should not even had played today, but I got an ITM so I feel a little better now.

Ah?...no, im sorry its not a cooler, but at least you tried to teach me instead of insulting like some people in here, and I thank you for that switch. our forum is about learning and getting better. I dont claim to know everything about poker, but allow me to teach you now- coolers come from 2 hands of the same type battling eachother when the loser thinks he has the win. example = flush vs. flush / full house vs. full house /etc.... I had full house vs. four of a kind. sorry to correct you, but we are here to learn right?

set over set...quads over full house.....COOLER!!!!

COOLER: This is a hand that you lose (usually a large pot) with that cannot be helped. For example...

You have KK. Your opponent has AA. Flop comes AKK, the turn card a 3, and the River card an Ace.

This example is extreme, but you get the idea. There is no way that either one of you will be folding this hand, and therefore you lose a large pot.

A cooler can be two things:

1. A person who brings bad luck.

e.g "I was up three buy-ins until the cooler sat down, from then on I
couldn't win a hand."

2. A hand in which both players have extremely powerful holdings. Usually
both will assume they are in front.

e.g "I was dealt Ah Ac and I flopped four a kind Aces, the board was Ad Kd
As. I bet and he called. The turn was the Td and I bet and he went all-in.
He had Qd Jd and won with a Royal Flush. What a cooler!"

thats the 1995 definition....it has changed...get with the times!!!!

pot vs kettle thing imo

Its doesnt even matter, it's just most people will refer to quads over full house as a cooler. Whether its the technical definition or not i don't care, that's just what people will refer to it as
