Bad at Heads Up?

So was I, but I'm getting much better now thanks to Royal Vegas Poker. They give you $10 to try the site out. It's not much, but it's enough. Royal Vegas Poker offers Heads Up sit&go's, and they're great. If you're bad at heads up and signed up to RVP for the Forum Challenge, use that $10 for some good! They have $1 and $2 heads up matches that can really help you out. I've been playing them like crazy, and it's really improved my game. I just won 5 in a row a minute ago and thought I'd share the wealth. So before you go using that money for nothing, use it to build some much needed skill in the heads up department! The blinds there go up very quickly, which is really bad for normal sit$go's but works wonderfully for Heads Up.

Hmmm, does anyone know if I'll be able to draw out the money I make? i don't know RVP's policy on that. I'll have to look.

If you use Neteller you will have to deposit first. Always can get a check but that takes forever!

Out of curiosity, and as a help to others, what exactly have you inproved about your game in these heads up matches? What have you done to change your style of play that has helped? Good on you for improving your game bro.

I'm not really sure what chaged. More confidence to be more aggressive when I need to, things like that.

I get this semi-daily newsletter kind of thing and it provides poker tips and stuff. I read one recently where the guy told of a terrible experience he had the first time he got heads up in a tournament. He had 10:1 in chips over the other guy but ended up losing. Next thing he did was called up a friend and played game after game after game of heads up and now he'll win a heads up 90% of the time. So I decided to do the same with this.

I've learned through this what kinds of hands to play/raise with and such, when to bet, when to be extra aggressive, and how to play when you're the big favorite (make their every move uncomfortable, when your small stack usually your looking to conserve for that perfect hand, so if you keep betting huge or putting them all in, you'll win most of their blinds. Now and again you may accidentally let them double up, but you'll still be the big favorite so that's food).

I don't know, it's just been really really helpful to my heads up game. When I first started them I was playing the $1's and I'd maybe win 50% of the time at best, hardly even that, usually just by luck. But now I win much more often after a lot of persistence and practice.

It's really great.


By the way, I found out their policy on the withdrawal. I talked to a guy on their Live Help chat thing. All you have to do is play 100 raked hands at a minimum .25/.50 blind level to free the $10 and then your free to cash out. If you make a bunch of winnings on your money before playing any ring games at all, you still only need to play 100 raked hands to cash out. Atleast that's what he told me. Took forever for me to beat it out of him though, he wasn't understanding what I was asking and kept telling me things I already knew. :P

Heads up... I am much better now, took me alot longer to be consistentally good than it did say to get good full table. Main reason is your starting hand requirements diminish considerably short handed and especially heads up. Heads up is much more about playing your opponent than the full table games are. If your opponent is weak just sieze control. If your opponent is a lunatic firing every hand simply wait till you have a pair or an ace and fire back. Heads up you aren't nearly as worried about kickers so when you would normally dump say ace 2, heads up you fire with it.

Exactly. Practicing a lot of heads up really helps you fine tune these aspects of heads up game. I'm glad I've found somewhere to practice, and an added benefit...Make fast money. If you're consistently winning these, they take usually a max of say 20 minutes (atleast with the blinds on RVP ) and you can win a fair amount fast. Not at the low levels, but if you start playing 10's or 20's you'll be heading straight up (of course, it seems usually your competition is a little smarter at these levels.

I am very succesful at heads up. I would'nt say I am great at it, I just know what to bet and when to bet. I am up to $20 heads up at the mo and am yet to lose

I just played my first heads up tournament. It was only a $2 buy-in and there were 16 people. I won it along with $32. Not bad! 1600% profit! I think I might try more of them.

This sounds like a great deal, but ot of all the sites I've been told I'd get 10 dollars at, I have never in my life actually had money just given to me to start playing....
