Anyone way better player live? I don't get it maybe its the massive amount of multi-tablers online, but I do way better live games. For example I almost always show a profit at the 300nl tables live, but tend to slowly lose money online in 50nl. perhaps It's easier to click call then to throw lots of chips in. Anyone have any ideas why this happens?

I play better live! I think its because when you play live you think about your plays more because you don't want to be a donk at a live game, especially with people you play with on a regular basis. Online you can hide behind a computer screen and the chances of you playing with that player again are slim.

I don't play a lot differently live than online (betsizing is the major diff for me), but I win more $$$/hand playing live than online... I agree, a lot of 200NL live players would be playing 10NL or lower if they were online. If I could only figure out a way to multitable live, and find a B&M where the average table deals 70 hands an hour, and have it be walking distance from my home, I'd skip playing online...

Playing live and playing on-line are completely different. I played live way before I played on-line and did quite well. Went to on-line and it was like learning to play the game over again. I play only on-line now mainly because I have other people that I need to look after and going to a casino just isn't an option.

I think there are a lot of factors to consider here.... playing live you are more attentive to the game, there is less to distract you so you can focus more on the action even when you are not involved in the current hand. Also, you are seeing less hands per hour so you are less likely to feel the itch to get involved. You get to know your opponents more: their mannerisms, body language, personality etc. Also, you probably made an effort to get to the casino so you take it more seriously. Online... it is easy to get distracted and much harder to follow hands you're not involved in. The action is thick and fast and you will feel that you are folding so often because the action comes around so quickly. I also give less credit to players hands online than live... this is clearly a mistake and something I am working on. I sometimes get a paranoia that people notice me raising often and when they come over the top I interpret this as a bluff only to find myself up against pocket Kings... I think the remoteness of online play contributes a lot to this, because we can't see who we're up against and we are much more afraid of folding to a bluff. Also, playing online is affected by the time of day that you chose to play. If you are playing on a site that accepts US players at 2pm EST during the week... you are more likely to find people who play the game seriously. Log on at 11pm EST on a Friday night and you will get much more drunk recreational players!!! One thing is true though... if you can beat say 2/5 online, you can crush live limits much higher than that. Something I am working on all the time lol. The beauty of online though... you can get up and leave anytime you want without feeling guilty for taking everyones money and running!!

re: Anyone way better player live? poker I consistantly win more often live than on line. But a big percentage of people I play with live does or would get crushed on line. We usually have a cash game about every friday night and there is one guy that I play with that does really well on line, but I know he throws a lot of money at it to. He also does pretty good in our cash games, but that is usually because of his agressive play and he's not afraid to have to rebuy and people fold to him. To me, he is usually pretty easy to read live and unfortunately he manages to keep from being in to many hands with me. Every once in a while when the beers are tasting really good, I will get a bit of a buzz going, so I emphasize that to make them think I am smoked or drunk. Man I just kill them then because they think I have no idea what I am doing. I have to have a least a little buzz to do that though, really hard for me to act drunk when I am completly sober, lol.

Yea I agree live poker is way more distracting. I hear the same goddamn noise from the slot machines over and over and over, the same stupid people at my table taking 9 minutes to fold their top pair and then whining about it makes me want to punch them in the face....over and over.

I'm way better live, because I can read people better than they can read me. I don't look for little tells, I absorb people's entire demeanor, body language and betting patterns; then use intuition to put them accurately right on hands. I've also had people try to stare me down, and then throw up their hands in frustration because they are getting nothing. Online, I am giving up that advantage from both sides. There is no advantage to being physically unreadable in a venue where everybody else is too, and there's no advantage of being intuitive when there are no clues to feed the intuitive sense. Also, I cultivate an unpredictable style, switching up my play alot. In live games, that befuddles people, but online, people are often not paying enough attention to notice.

there are a few reasons why you do better live. for one its so much easier to get a read on someone live. the tables dont break up as fast. the competition is alot easier live pro's play 200nl online. the lack of tracking software live. if you find yourself losing money at 50nl drop down to 25nl and look for leaks. reviewing hand histories and just working on your online game will help your live game as well.

re: Anyone way better player live? poker The last time I played live poker,I never lost 1 hand. Some local older fellas and a couple younger ones had found out I came into a little money. They bugged me until I said yes to a poker game, and I warned them that I didnt wanna hear em cry when I busted their money. This could be Long post, but ill get to the point. We played 20c-50c limits.Well I started out winning and never lost a hand. This was the night you dream about. No matter what cards I played,I won.I felt sorta bad,and I quit dealing about 3 hours,so I couldnt be accused of cheating, which I wasnt cheating anyway.I wouldnt even know how. They became so tilted, they threw hands in,when they had me beat, figuring I had the nuts again.I was always good at live poker, but this was totally unreal.almost unbelievable, but I swear every word is true.If I ever get to Vegas and have luck like that again,Id be on TV soon!
