Is anyone here good at Razz. I play as many freerolls as I can enter into and I have only placed in one and that was a long time ago. 90% of the freerolls I play are no limit hold'em. For the first time last night I entered into a limit Razz freeroll with 7,500 people. The top 45 players place with the top prize being 18.00$. I finished 217th and didn't make the money. I was doing well in 6th place but once their was only 500 people left I went on a cold streak and wasn't getting dealt any good hands. In your opinion do you think that Razz is easier then hold'em and why?

i think razz is a whole different monster compared to NLH... with Razz you will find ALOT of soft play in a big field (like the freeroll) where there are people such as yourself who are taking a shot for the first time, and just getting their feet wet... i am in no way a razz expert, with having maybe 10 hours of razz play under my belt... razz is a game of draws and up cards, if i have KQ(down) A(up) and you have A2(down)K(up) i will bet you hard EVERY time... its all about what you can see, and what your opponent can see (and there are many levels of this, but it would be a 10 page book)... i think razz would be a good game to make very good money at if you dedicated to it, because there are so many people taking shots and not understanding the game that it would be free money to a person who is a razz expert

^^^^ ya way too general. first off limit tournies are trouble because you have to get right cards at right time, no stacking potential like NL. Razz is a simple game u play yr cards and the board. Starters and boards play is explained in SS2 for example, lots of sources. To answer OP a bit more both HE and razz LIMIT are similar in that u play good starters and push when u catch, fold if u dont generally. NL is a whole different beastie. Hope that helps. Neither one is 'easier...'

The best resident Razz specialist that comes to mind here is Skolpadda (sp?). In short, Razz is at somewhat the opposite end of the poker spectrum from NLHE. NL flopp'em vs. Stud & limit. Wildly different animals, involving wildly different sets of skills. P.S. There is also a bigtime Razz specialist co-hort of his here named gspecial (best I can recall?), but he doesn't post here often.

re: Is anyone here good at Razz. poker Check out the Full Tilt Strategy Guide for a razz discussion with Huck Seed and Ted Forrest. It's one of the few places you'll get tips on playing Razz. It's a really great game that many people play wrong. If you're up for a game that you need to be observant and bold to play, it might be for you.

I started playing various free rolls which included razz and it just takes some getting used to, I actually started off likeing it because all the cards that suck in holdem are great in razz so it felt like I was a natural at it. I made a few dollars on the game but basicly you bet when the other guys up cards take a turn for the worse and yours dont or if you just have great cards. I like to see at least to low cards out of the first three to stay in and I never expect 2 of the last 4 cards to be low so unless I hit all 5 early I play pretty conserviatve depending on the other players up cards. You can definitly bluff if you look strong with your up cards and the other players dont have a made hand. You also see a lot of people give up and be frustrated with the game and they are easy to take chips from.

i always place when i play razz. my starting hands i only play if all 3 cards are under 8. if i get 2 cards over 8 its an automatic fold. as soon as i get 2 cards over 8 ill call instead of raise or if i get 2 doubles. But if i see my opponents hand and they have 2 showing cards over 9 ill raise everytime as long as i have low cards showing.

re: Is anyone here good at Razz. poker Razz is a pure drawing game. If you have 3 starting cards below 8 then you got a decent hand. If you have A or 2 showing and everyone else has face cards you might be able to raise and take a small pot. After that it's just drawing.

Like any other game razz has basic philosophies that the majority do not understand. For 90% of the hands you need 3 cards 8 or lower. An exception to this would be at a tight table where it is folded to you in lp, your up card is a baby and everyone else's up cards are bricks(Brick is any 9-k or any card that pairs you up). In that case go ahead and complete. You also, as stated before, need to keep track of all the up cards. Even though you may have a 853, you may not want to play if there are 2 aces a deuce and a couple 4s/6s as up cards for your opponents. And watching how tight/loose and aggressive/passive your opponents are goes without saying.
