Am i a jerk for this bubble play? Just finished a 3.30 sit and go top 3 get money. It was down to 4 people i had about 10k. Two players were 1-2k and the other was less than 500. The short stack wasnt calling anything and blinds were like 100-200. I just kept going allin on every hand knowing the other people would't call. When short stack was all in in bb he was able to double up. In the end short stack got third and one of the other guys bubbled. Needless to say he wasn't happy and proceeded to let me know it over and over bitching me out and so on. I said "just playing a strategy knowing you wouldn't call" He also bitched out the short stack. The best was the racist comment "at least I'm not black" (nor am I) and "I'm turning you into bodog for chip dumping" I said "go ahead they will have a good laugh." Now true i would be annoyed if that happend to me too and i have been on the other end. Wondering what all your thoughts are on this. Given a similar situation i would do the same again. Get chips when you can.

You might be a jerk, but why not play it like that if you have the stack? I might have let the others play it out on their own, but your strategy is valid. Sounds to me like the other guy is a jerk for not taking the loss like a man!

pretty sure that was the correct play. but.. If you were sitting back and letting the others take each other out then what is the right play for the other guys? I'm guessing here: the short stack should hold tight and the 2k stack should shove every hand...I'm not sure about the 1k? any thoughts?

re: Am i a jerk for this bubble play? poker That's chip dumping and Bodog is going to ban you for sure. Also, the moon is also made of cheese, and I often please a dozen women at a time in bed. In all seriousness, there is nothing wrong with what you did. Strategy-wise I'm not shoving when the guy with 2k is in the pot with any two cards. I need at least 10x someone's stack to get all in vs them with any two cards. But legally, there's nothing wrong with what you did. The guy was just sore because you didn't play in a way that let him get the money easily. It's like in live tournaments, at the end people start complaining when I shove even though my M is around 4. They just want to see a cheap flop to outdraw me. Screw them. I'm doing what's best for me.

You are playing to win the tourney and there was noting wrong with your tactics. Sure it is not nice to be on the receiving end but you are not playing to be nice. I would bet the guy doing the bitching would have done the same in that situation. Congrats on your win. Well done.

I agree with everyone else--you were the big stack and you took advantage of the bubble situation, as you should. You're not supposed to "help out" anyone at that point. When you're at the lowest risk to get taken out, you can do whatever the heck you want, and that shove strategy is possibly one of the best you could have used for that situation. Good for you. I had to learn that I shouldn't care whether or not people thought I was a jerk--just play to win. I'd rather be a jerk winner than a nicer loser.

You played Big Stack Poker. When I'm short, I get piled on all the time. I hate it, but you know what, I can change it next time by winning more early on so I'm not short. The game is all about the last man standing. It's hard to win if you don't take advantage of every aspect of the game, so keep it up!

How is this a jerk play? You were a chip leader and you're using chip advantage. And you played it correct. You have 10k and they have 1-2k each? Shove shove shove. They're scared and won't call you easily. Even if they double up, they'll keep folding because those two players are hoping for other to get eliminated. You make them chase for 2nd place. You have 10 and those have 1-2k? I have 27 offsuit, i still shove. don't focus on your cards. focus on the environment. focus on what they can have.

And also, it's their fault for being pussies. When big bully shoves all-in against my blind and I'm short-stacked, I'll call down with hands like K2, Q5, J4 based on how they've been playing because I'm ahead majority of the time with those hands. No guts, no glory. They're the real donkeys for playing ABC NIT TIGHT Poker when it's bubble play. When it's bubble play, you do not focus on card. You focus on environment.

"at least I'm not black" ..... What the heck does THAT have to do with anything? lol Did you remind him that the President is black?.... Of course, so is Tiger..... You did everything right. Played your best game. Just laugh at the rest! |

Another thing. You can always report them for racism. "at least I'm not black" wtf? He played it perfectly. With that chip advantage, you should be the one taking them out to increase your chip lead while making them chase for second place. If you let them eliminate each other, they're building their chips to fight against you. To prevent that, you must bully them and try to take them down yourself.

I agree.. Nothing wrong at all with that play.. I got bitched at a few weeks ago for using all my allotted time by a deep stacked player. I only had about 10BB with 10 or so ppl left on the bubble. When he first started on me I hit the time bank and let it run all the way down telling him I would do that every time he bitched. I had the pleasure of watching him bust out and finished in the top 5 after the bubble burst.. Play your game however you like. If others can't accept that and adjust their game accordingly it's not your problem.. =)

I myself have not done that, I can see why you did. I guess the player that was mad, wanted you to pick a guy you wanted to win, namely him. lol I do usually sit back and let them fight it out. A lot of times this would end the tourney sooner. After reading this I might just rethink my strategy, I have sat back and ended up losing. So I am thinking if you can get more chips do it.

re: Am i a jerk for this bubble play? poker Your not a jerk Your objective is to win You were using the right strategy Poker is not a team game The SS isnt gong to die if he busts on the bubble It's an internet game not real life war.
