Yes poker is rigged, better quit. Unfortunately saying rockets lost to 27o tells us about 1% of the whole story.
What stage of the tourney? What happened pre-flop? Who had position? When as the all-in? - Shall I go on? Please give a little more details before saying "poker seems rigged." |

One thing I found that helped me a lot was to just sit out the first 45 mins. to an hour. It gives a lot of those idiots a chance to donk off their chips and then you can play a more serious game against them. Of course you still have to watch for them and when you find yourself in a hand with them I try to keep the pots moderate that way if I do loose with a good hand at least I am still in and can just avoid pots with them as I build my chips back up.

You want to playing against idiots.
You should actively seek them out to play against. If I get the chance to get my chips in against someone who will shove hands they shouldn't I can't click fast enough. If you can't beat bad players how do you beat good ones? |

you need to play like a donkey to beat a donkey. you cant play regular poker online. I found that out the hard way. fish for flushes!, donk that straight on the river. make 2 7 off your best friend. its the only way to win. I have played live poker in hard rock and the dog tracks for years and never saw the crap that I see online. sad fact...you must become a donkey to win.

Like what? whhhaaattt i cant even reply to some of these posts.... some of you favor playing good players over bad ones(genius...), some of you think playing bad cards is good(devilraise lol), and sitting out for an hour!?(wat).... there goes your chance of winning the tournament especially if its a freeroll.

WTF is going on in this thread?
1. Why you want to play bad players. Well, think about it for a second: Where do you make the money from? Bad players. If you were playing all good, thinking, calculated players all the time, you wouldn't get anywhere. The only action you would probably get is AA vs KK and how often does that happen? It seem like so many of you hate that these bad players chase all the time or they go all in with trash or they call you down with bad hands. What you don't realize is: THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT! This is where the profits come in. You want to play bad players because the more mistakes they make, the more profitable it is for you. Repeat: The more mistakes a bad player makes, the more profitable it is for you. Yeah, soak that in for a bit. The reason why you think you want to play good players is because they usually do the right thing. They fold when they're beat, they dont chase their draws, etc. The thing about poker is that its not about winning hands, its about winning pots and making profit. And you make profits by exploited the mistakes in players while reducing yours. If you're playing players who aren't going to be exploited like this, then you'll get nowhere. 2. To beat a donk, you have to play like one. What is this crap? You know what? Go ahead and play like one and show me how you really do. And I dont mean show me one or two hands you've won. Show me a big enough sample that shows this is profitable. Continue to chase flush draws without proper odds, play garbage hands, and everything that is consider 'Donkish' and show me how well you're really doing. You do not have to dumb your game down just to beat these level of players. Like it was said earlier, how are you going to beat good players if you cant beat the bad ones? How do you beat the bad players? You adjust your game and you exploit them. Don't keep making the same mistakes vs bad players, but force them to keep making the same mistakes for you. These are bottom level thinkers, the easiest to take advantage of. If you can't beat the bottom, you can't beat the top. Last edited by philthy : 02-08-2008 at 11:18 AM. |

sitting out is a good idea however this takes out the possibly of playing ok hands at the early stages for low blinds instead of high blinds just to see the flop. So i recommend just calm down because if you don't call eventually someone will and he'll lose EVENTUALLY

In playing an actual live buy-in tournament tonight I learned that I have learned a very valuable poker lesson through my online freerolls. PATIENCE. At our regular game we have often referred to the wilder tables as the freeroll tables as players seem to have bottomless resources for rebuys and will go all-in before they even have time to glance at their hole cards. I am one of the few players who consistently limits themselves to the original buy-in (I have read many a book while waiting on my other half to finish). A neighboring player was astounded repeatedly at the hands I folded pre-flop early on in the tournament. I simply kept in mind from the beginning that every hand had not a chance but a probability of being an all-in hand pre-flop
and never made a call that I was not willing to go all-in on. I eventually built up pretty good, although not good enough in the long run. I was proud of myself for the most part, at no time did I doubt that I had played one of my best games as a result of all the infuriating freerolls I have check-folded my way through all these months. |

Same old Same old
It's the same sad story.Just told by a new player at a different tournament. We cuss, we kick, we pout, and then we buy in AGAIN!?!We are poker players, and we have to be one of the sickest creatures out there.Simply put, play your game, learn all you can and eventually the donkeys will be put out to pasture.

LMAO I'm becoming a big fan of you, philthy.
I remember just a couple of weeks ago my post like this got beat on pretty badly by philthy. I think WV had something to do with it too. But anyway, I took the advice and have finished in the top 100 in almost every freeroll I've played in this week. My game is getting better. My patience is becoming my best friend. And soon, I hope real soon, my bankroll is going to start growing. My best advice is to put more time into this site than you do into your poker for about a week. Post your hands you have trouble with and just accept the abuse your going to get. But learn from it! And most importantly, check out the many different help threads on here posted by several of the regulars. They, for the most part, are very intuitive and if you find one you like and stick to it religiously you might just start coming out on top. |

see it all the time. Especially when there is no money on the line. Alot of new players and some old (who really knows) but alot of them think that just because they saw a pro do it it is okay for them. But they don't realize the pros do this for a living and it is not many times they are going to push and get called to see it. Doyle brunson pushed allin with 10 2 off at the final table after another player had raised. That player did end up folding. But as he has said many times before "THIS IS POKER SON NOT SOLITAIRE"

IF you got it all in preflop with AA then you made the right decision. AA won't hold up every time and that's part of poker. Just because AA gets cracked doesn't mean it's rigged, i mean hell the other night i had AsKs against AhAd and the flop came Ac-4s-7s. I thought i had the best hand and bet and got called the turn was a 5h and i pushed thinking he had 5-6 suited because of the fact that he was raising a lot. and i also thought he would call with a pair and OESD so i wanted to try my double up right here. He insta calls of course with top set and the river was the 6s. i flushed out on him. Preflop i was 9% to win a hand and still won. That is part of poker. That is the reason good players like Daniel Negraunu and the Grinder and Gus Hansen play a lot of hands. because the flop is what makes texas holdem. If you can manipulate a player after the flop no matter what the hand is then you try, as long as you know how to range that players hands well, then you can try to manipulate it to help you. Its not automatically rigged, it just means you need to learn how to play more than premium cards, because in a tourney it will only get you so far. In a tourney you need to know how to change gears and play position and many many many other things. Playing premium hands may work in a cash game but maybe you should change the way you play in a tourney and see if it helps. Gl and see you on the felt.

Has anyone ever won a hand short stacked that they had no right winning? This gets evened out when you lose with aa. What I don't get is would you feel better if qq or jj beat you. The only thing I care about is I got beat. Get over it and move on you will catch a pot you are a big underdog in and someone else can call you a donk
