57-43 in favour of QQ before the flop. That's better than a coinflip and that's the hand I'll take.

re: AK or QQ ? Which one do you prefer ? poker

QQ is easier to play than AK

1. QQ wins more preflop all-ins than AK
2. QQ fears A and K so an A or K on the board, you dont go crazy.
3. QQ is a pocket pair and so remains hidden on a lowish board.
4. QQ is only dominated by AA and KK preflop and most often players after you reraise them, so you more often know if you are ahead on the flop.
5. Lots of players play KQ QJ QT hands, so if you hit a set, you can bet and many players actualy have something they can call with.
6. You do not often get 'whats the best way to play QQ' threads.. unlike AK....QQ is just easier to play.
7. 70% of flops are missed.. a PP has value regardless of the flop.

I think I would have to go w/ the Snuffdippers, altho if an A or K hits the board, it would be hard to get away from. Most times I would bet or raise preflop so that I could make a continuation bet and hopefully get some idea where I stand in the hand.
Take care

I prefer the made hand pocket queens. The queens are beat by the two overcards but AK has to flop a pair or it can be beat by a pair of two's

QQ is obviously better against any normal range. See sindri's equity calculations above. If you change the random hand to any normal range for villain QQ is still the clear favorite.

Would you also argue that AK and 22 are of equal value, because they are a 'coinflip'? No, just because two hands are equal against each other doesn't mean they are equal against a range, which is what we should really be concerned with.

It depends on the situation and the players. If you have players who like to play Ace-rag, AK can stack them, and QQ is more likely to get stacked.

But in general, I'll take the queens.

AK is way way way way better than QQ in tournaments. People always push with any ace. Any person thats plays tournaments long enough knows the value of AK, and how you will have most hands dominate. AA, KK, AK are top 3 hands in tournament poker. Ace-rag often beats the pocket queens in my experience.

However in a cash game AA, KK, QQ is my ranking. People dont push with A rag in cash games .

Gotta go with the ladies. They look so purrrr-ty ...

Besides, AK (aka 'Big Slick') is the oil spot you slip on right before busting out. ...

Yeah this speaks volumes.
People that think 22 is better then AK just cause there fliping are "special" imo.

Thats a hard one.. Because AK is such a awesome hand when the flop is good.. But if i had to choose i would choose .. QQ.. just because u are in better posistion and have a better chance of beating the opponent out ... But thats what i would do..

Well, of course the value against a range I`m concerned with since I didn`t made a thread AK vs 22 because of obvious hand-ranges issues, and I didn`t made it to help me decide which one should I prefer.I go with queens for obvious equity reasons, and for the fact that are very easy to play post-flop.

In my opinion QQ has a huge advantage over AK since even if it`s a coin flip when you go AI preflop, the case is different when you play it normally with a pf raise and get to the post-flop play.AK is only going to flop a pair 30% of the time, which means that 70% QQ will induce a fold, winning 70% of the pots against AK and not only 50%.

I was just curious if you guys think the same and how would you elaborate.

re: AK or QQ ? Which one do you prefer ? poker

I find it comical that this thread is still being discussed. In it's raw math, QQ will be an approximate 56-43 favorite to win the hand heads up preflop all in. However, the true strength of this hand lies in one's ability to utilize bet sizing, position, and reads to induce folds or calls. Play the man, not the cards. Breaking out from a beginner player to intermediate is understanding that poker is relative, not absolute.

definitely queens. whenever i make a move with ace king, i never seem to hit and i lose a lot of money, also queens are actually the favorite to win the hand so it is not a coin flip

We all know what poker is about. We are discussing hand preferences here, if you find it funny just have a nice laugh, go browse other threads and leave the others share their thoughts.

Doyle Brunson says AK is a better hand than AA and KK. If AK is better than AA and KK than definitely is better than QQ.

The reasons are (according to Doyle Brunson):
1. You'll win more money when you make a hand with it.
2. You'll lose less money when you miss a hand with it.

Yeah I thought this but I'm not entirely sure what OP is getting at. Are we saying that if we know what hands people have, would we rather have QQ or AK, cos then yeah it has to be QQ. Or are we saying, if you have no idea what the other person holds, which do we prefer?
