Advice.

Hey Everyone,

Guess im the new guy here, rightfully so I guess. Ive never really played online poker before, just here and there. Ive played at casinos and stuff like that but im looking to get into poker playing. Being new to online poker but not online gambling since im a low key sports handicapper and spend my life betting on sports. Im thinking of depositing $5,000 into a poker room to play higer stakes single table tournaments (100$-500$ buyin) and have active players and not have to wait for a while to get a game going. Can anyone direct me to the best site for this...??

PokerStars probably offers the most game selection in online tournaments (including single table tournaments).

Standard disclaimer: I caution against starting at the high stakes tables no matter how experienced you are in live poker. That said, good luck.

yes...high stakes online is very risky. ive heard some bad stories about collusion and other stuff. but either way, good luck!

I have seen very good players consistently creamed in the $100/$200 games on PokerStars... not sure if this is because of collusion or not, but it is pretty fishy nonetheless.

I would like to think it is variance, but I am not kidding when I say "consistently". The same players can move to $10/$20 even though this limit is not the norm for them, and win consistently. $10/$20 may not be a targeted limit. I do hope that variance is responsible for this, but I will have to wait and see when I know more...

just relax their storm....im not saying 'oh poker is flippin rigged,' but i have heard of people setting up a wall, where there are 3+ people sitting at the table that are in contact with each other, allowing them to know folded cards as well as jam the pot up. don't know if its true, hope its not, but just passing along some possiblities.

Yes... but the players I speak of are high stakes players, so they find it demeaning to have to play at levels such as $10/$20. It is not the losing at the higher limits that is fishy... but the way these high limit players play. For example... one person on pokerstars lost 20K in one sitting to a player who was raising and re-raising almost all of the hands that were dealt, and this player hit straight after flush after full house. The fishy part of that sitting was that the winning player was behind all the way to the river, but kept being aggressive all the way. The pots were huge so easily called down. Unfortunately, the river would be the make card for this players hand about 80% of the time that he won. This was just one sitting, and he could afford to lose the 20K, but it was very strange the way that it happened. I am hoping this was a freak incident, because I play on PokerStars myself... I don't play that high of stakes, but I may get there at some point...
