Ace Rag and the Consequences it can cause!!!
When Im at the table I always have a couple people that think Ace 2-9 is a high class hand. Offsuite at that!!!! I never hardly play A rag in a game unless it is suited and only then should anyone else. It is a donks fav hand and just some advice to you out there it can hurt you in the long run... In live games if you have an Ace it is kinda unlikely that more than 1 of your opponents will also have and Ace .. But on online poker, most of the time 2-3 people will always have an ace.. So when you out on the tables again, remember fold A Rag Off and save your chips!

So at a 9 person table live I should play Ace rag since no one else is likely to have an ace, but online at a 9 person table I should fold it cuz its more likely multiple aces have been dealt. Got it.

The server tries to make it as close as possible to live game statistics and odds, but since there is no way to regulate it to an exact, there will always be harder play online than at live games. Like all the pro will tell you, online poker player dosnt help your live game or make you better. Im sure you have noticed, and if you havnt go to a table and just [play a few ace rags and tell me how it turned out for you. Its very dangerous and like i said online its almost always dominated by another player. With the exception og HU play, you can play A rag a little more leanient there, but still a very trecherous hand to be playing 6 or 9 handed...

I watch people play ace rag all the time, live and online (I do play poker every ONCe in a while, after all), and it's the same results both ways: Sometimes they lose, sometimes they don't. Period. We've had a million of these Ace-rag conversations, make sure you use the search feature. |

I never play ace rag, the only ace i would play would be A 10. And i already hate that hand as it is, so it has to be suited for me to play it. But i never play ace rag because you always get beat by kickers, and ive learned my lesson by that.

For me it really just depends on many factors: what, if any, are the raises in front of me; how many people at the table; (if in a tourney), what is your position; are the Ax suited??
A10 and above i would most likely call a raise of up to 3x the bb(unless i knew the player to be really tight; more likely to play A"rag" at a smaller table; and if the cards are suited then you can afford to call a min raise or a little more, just so long as you dont have a problem folded if the board comes AK10 or something similar. I dont really believe folding an A with a 9 could be considered A rag. it is a decent hand, but not an ace rag hand. |

The really aggravating part is when you have an ace with a big kicker, flop the ace, only to have someone turn over ace rag when his second card has also hit. That is why so many fools play ace rag, to catch a lucky flop and bust someone with ace-big kicker.

Its trash plain and simple. Its like a 75% chance someone else has one as well at a 9 man table.
ONLY time I even consider playing it, is in a late position, its suited, and I can limp in. Dont always play it then either. I am looking for the nut flush or a (preferably out of the two and hopefully a A is on the board too) low straight, or high straight. I will NOT play it for the pair value at all. Not a good chance at a flush or straight and someone bets with a A on the board, its insta fold. |
