Absolute Insanity, Must Read! This is not a vent! There were some big names on full tilt today battling it out in some exhilirating $500/1000 6max. Phil Ivey, Galfond, Zigmund, Gus Hansen, and Patrick Antonius to name a few. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were being won and lost every couple minutes. So with over 2 million dollars combined up for grabs between the two tables, I felt inclined to watch. Nothing real fancy for a while, mainly Antonius raping Ivey over and over again, Antonius was up over half a million within one hour. Antonius took a break, meanwhile Ivey won most of his money back off of Galfond and a random high stakes guy....Then Ivey bounced out, leaving Antonius who finally returned, Zigmund, and two guys I havent heard of one of which was "kingsofcards". Thats when the unthinkable happened, I looked down and saw that this kingsofcards was in a flop with Antonius, and some raising and reraising went down. The board was Jh4c6s Patrik Antonius made a standard continuation bet of 12k into a 17.4k pot, after reraising $8200 preflop to kings' initial raise. Kings' snap called upping the pot to 41.4k. The turn came 2c Now with a board of Jh4c6s2c, Antonius checked up, at which point kingsofcards fired immediately with a $28,200 bet. Patrik Antonius than decided to snap RERAISE 126k!!! Which Kingsofcards, almost immediately, CALLED! So we saw a river with a 293k pot, it came Jd! Almost 300k in the pot Jh4c6s2cJd, Antonius first to act. He used all his time, including a time bank call, and checked. Then came kingsofcards, and at this point everyone was wondering what the hell was going to happen, kingsofcards proceeded to milk the clock, and at the last second, went all in for his remaining 100k. With the pot now up to 395,000 dollars, Antonius sat and deliberated. And finally THE CALL! And in the end what hand earns almost half a million dollars....ANTONIUS's KING HIGH?!?!?!?!?!? I am not kidding you, with the straight possibility on the board, the massive reraising preflop, the two jacks, kingsofcards had 8c5c, and Antonius Kc10c. They both missed their flush and still wound up with it all in the pot. Now I've seen alot of poker both online and off, but I have absolutely no idea what to think of this....it absolutely makes no sense, can someone explain???

I think I have watched this hand a hundred times tonight...lol I'm still stunned. Honestly though, do you feel like Antonius was priced in to call? I suppose you could look at it either way, I mean if he even had a pair or ace high it would make a little more sense. Simply unbelievable.

re: Absolute Insanity, Must Read! This is not a vent! poker that is just too weird for me, I dont get it.. why would they do that, or anyone for that matter, but especially them.. and they are suppose to be great players.., I mean its not like you can read their faces on there and know they are bluffing Antonius is really out there to call that river with King High. ridiculous play but your right if this is how all the big shots are playing no wonder people like us don't stand a chance.. were to scared to make calls like that

Was it 6 max ? Maby he saw him bluff b4 and k high is good vs busted draws at 6 max. Maby he saw a betting pattern u judge on 1 hand . That's wrong its like putting a 1000 peace puzzel with 1 peace and 999 missing poker goes slot deeper than alot of people can imagine

What's shocking about the hand are the amounts being played (and yes I'm stunned too, and enjoyed reading this) - divide everything by 1,000 to make this $0.50/$1.00 and then see if the play makes more sense. Keep in mind that nosebleed stakes players pretty much know each other and each others' games, there aren't that many of them... |

Antionious is hard to bluff it is not the first time he has made this sought of call he won a lot with 10 4 v aj on high stakes calling someone down all the way too. I have called people down all the way with q high when they keep bluffing at me but thats in a $5 heads up limit holdem game. lol.

re: Absolute Insanity, Must Read! This is not a vent! poker The odd thing is: You see this kind of play a lot at super high stakes (watch high stakes poker on GSN). You see this kind of play a lot at .01/.02 Its odd how little you see this anywhere in the middle. A lot of ppl at the micors don't care because its just pennies. Most people playing 1/2 or 2/4 care a lot because its hundreds (or thousands) of dollars. But, it seems like when you throw around half a million, its like pennies again.

It just seems like you give a guy $1000 and tell him to go play 50NL, he has to play solid TAG style. You give a guy $1million and he needs to go nuts playing any two cards. you know, thinking about it...it isnt this particular call that makes Aontonius (or any of these TV guys) great. Its knowing what style of game to bring to the table at any given time.

Antonius is unreal. He was on this seasons of HSP as well and make some incredible calls. I vaguely recall him snapping off a bluff from one of the non-pro players at the table with a moderately scary board and only a pair of 4s. Be that as it may, watching Ivey lately on Poker After Dark is like watching a clinic in good poker decision making. I've never seen anything like it, the guy is just right all the time.

I have a feeling this guy is leading himself to believe he can be the next Dario Gus Hansen/Tom Dwan/super-hyper-aggressive. Tonight kingofcards raised preflop and Ivey pushed allin for about $100k. He snap calls with AK. Ivey took down the pot with pocket rockets.

1st hand is more interesting, especially when you consider that Antonius checked his K high on the river to INDUCE kingofcards to shove with his busted draw. If he thought his hand wasn't good enough to win at SD but didn't want to give up on the pot, he almost certainly would have shoved the river himself hoping he still had some fold equity. That's why they play nosebleed stakes, they think on levels that us mere humans can barely comprehend, much less actually implement. |
