It is always better to raise preflop with AA rather than slowplay it. Winning a small pot is still better than losing a big one. AA is extremely hard to lay down after the flop even if you know you're beat. By letting other players limp into the pot, you're just setting yourself up for a bad beat.

Buckster...this has got to be the most STUPID strategy I have ever heard. Going all-in with AA preflop no matter what should only be done:
1) If the pot is raised once or twice in front of you AND you are a shortstack, then push 2) If you are shortstacked and feel that someone is raising to try and steal your blinds. Many good opponents might thionk that you are trying to re-steal and with call you with a small pokcet pair or a hand like K8 or A5. 3) You want to win the two blinds + any antes because you are a MORON and do not know how to get value out of your hands. AA should only be slowplayed in these type of situations, but not ALL the time: 1) You are up against one opponent and are in the BB, call a raise or just checking here gives your opponent no read on you and you could have a wide range of hands. 2) You are at an aggressive table in early position and you are almost positive that someone will raise behind you, you can limp in, then call a raise or re-raise then. |

Pocket AA's
I will only play AA's after the flop. I find if you play them before the flop you get beat on the flop but if you can hang on until the flop then you can figure out how to make the most of your chips. Just my 2 cents. Probably not worth 2 cents though...

Still bet 3X-4X the BB. If they are going to limp in against your AA's at least make them pay to limp in.
Cubs no need for name calls. Yes at times like Buck I go all-in with AA's. I just don't want anybody to see anything. I don't like forest gumps, fishermen, rag card hopefulls, and gut feeling players to see nothing. If you are going to see then at least you are going to pay to see. No free rides with my AA's. |

I dont play AA that quickly, it may be best hand preflop, but the AA could change completely after the flop. Dont TOO slow play it though, i prefer to Raise the BB if im not on it so that they have to pay to see whats coming rather than here you go take the pot off me style

I personally play aces by what my stack is like. If my stack is small i'll raise a lot to double up. If my stack is large i'll raise enough that only other larger stacks will call, so i can play tricky and take a lot of their chips. Of course it will back fire once in a while and you have to be willing to let you aces go when there are four suited cards and you dont have one and your opponent is raising like crazy.

I agree with the previous couple of posts
Hi all,
I've seen AA get beat just as many times as it's won which is why I never go all-in with them pre-flop, unless someone else is all-in then i'll call them. I'd usually put in a fair raise to get rid of the crap hands which might make a good hand come the flop. Then i'll slow play to the river, if i've hit my three of a kind or better still fullhouse then i'll push whoever is left all-in. I have at times had to fold them on the turn or river as it's been too obvious someone has me beat, that's hard to do but you have to if your going to risk playing it that way. One example was I had AA and come the river there was 4 clubs out there and one guy goes all-in, obviously had the flush and none of my aces was a club so I folded. I've seen the same situation where the guy with AA has called it anyway, some people do have a problem folding just one ace i've noticed even if there isn't an ace on the table. Some players ( not sure if they are players really ) think if they have an ace then they win the pot, it's really wierd sometimes. The way some people play now ( especially in freerolls) it's way too risky going all-in preflop as there is usually always someone who will call you and more often than not will hit something and wipe you out. I really only like to go all-in when I know I have the nuts, anything else is risky so my main objective is to come in the money so I play AA just like any other premium cards, not like I have the nuts. Once you hit good then take full advantage, better than taking a chance and someone taking you out on a bunch of crap. Good luck ![]() Tony ( The Webmaster ) |

generally speaking, the only time i'd consider limping in with AA is when im sure no more than 1-2 ppl will join me into the pot.
my biggest fear with AA or other big pocket pairs is letting in too many ppl which severely dilutes my statistical chances thru the river. (of course, the above is a very general comment in a vacuum.) |

earlier limit comment
Nobody seemed to respond to the earlier comment about limit games. I love having AA in limit games because a bet is a bet is a bet... No way for anyone to get too suspicious. I just go ahead and bet them. Best if I'm in a late betting position then raise instead. Anyone with a good hand will stay in, and I often find I get really nice pots with them (often at least as big in limit as NL). Less likely to accidentally scare anyone off since you don't force massive decisions like all-in. I may slow it down a little bit after the flop if I pull my trips, & then bet/raise as much as I can if a new card comes up on the turn (Q or K seem especially believable).
Just my 2 cents... |

AA is good no matter who you're playing with, I either slowplay it and bet the flop bigtime, bet big preflop. I've lost with that hand more then I've won, I need to learn how to lay it down because i always get rivered and lose to 2 pair.

I am with Four Dogs. Talk trash at the table then when you hit the AA go all in and ask if anyone wants to double up. In live games nobody would dream of calling but online is so different. I gave up slow playing AA a long time ago because if you go all in then you will likely only get 1 caller that has A/k,q,j,10 etc. At least you will know what one of their cards will be. I am all about not giving opportunity to other players when I know I have the best hand. People just gotta pay if they wanna play.
Oh.... and people DO call that bet pre flop 95% of the time I do it. |

This has been really helpful since I got caught slow playing AA too many times. Got greedy and hoped to lure more players in, then lost to people who hit two runners or had some other hand I guessed wrong on.

Spent most of the weekend playing $5 and $10 SNGs at Noble and Full Tilt. Got pocket aces 6 times, lost on all of them. Most frustrating was last tourney. I was in 1st position, raised 3xBB, everyone folds to the button who raises me same amount. I push all-in, guy calls with J-5o - yes he wins on the river...

I would say yes. You have the best hand before the flop so you are in very good position. But, you also need to know when to fold if the flop is against you. Whenever I'm in a situation where I have little chips left and I get pocket aces, I go all in.

raise it high, pick up the blinds or only have 1 guy to beat thats the only way or youll get stuck with the 2 pair and have to lay them down so never slow play the AA...its insulting to the kings of poker lol

yeah that is the ????? i am at middle position on this subject !!! allin depends if your at at a 9 or 10 handed table and what the players at table chip stack looks like compared to yours if you can afford to risk tournament life r whether it is ring game!!!also have to take in acctt yor position and what the blinds r if playing in a tourney.. preflop have too raise above the normal 3 times blind if slow playing them if win pot by your bet great but hate losing to some1 limping in in tournament situation!!! ring gaME ACCORDING IF YOU KNOW WHAT THE PLAYERS R LIKE TO GET THE MOST OF YOUR BEST HAND PREFLOP.. YEAH MAKES BIG DIFFERENCE IF IN TOURNAMENT r your in ring game the blinds and position play a very big roll how most players would play them
