7 card stud vs Texas hold'em

I'm a rank beginner but seem to do better playing 7 card stud than Texas hold'em. Is 7 card stud an easier game to "learn"?

Stud is a much more straightforward game than No Limit Hold 'Em. Stud doesn't call for nearly as much guessing or people reading. It's much more important to catch cards in Stud because it's very difficult to run bluffs. You can't chase someone off the pot with an "all in". In my opinion, Hold 'Em is a more complex game than Stud, which isn't to say Stud isn't a great game. It certainly is, and deserves more attention than it's getting during this current Texas Hold 'Em craze. When I'm playing online, I play NLHE about 90% of the time. But when I'm in a 'dealer's choice' home game, I call 7-Card Stud about 90% of the time. I especially dig 7-Card Hi-Lo due to the radical shifts that can occur from card to card.

I'm with RJ, online I prefer to play nl hold 'em because it's a more exciting game that can turn either way at any moment. However, at the table at home, I prefer stud because it's more straightforward and your money tends to last longer.

I think with all the televsion coverage of texas hold'em it is much easier to understand. Just watch late night ESPN and watch the pro's play it.
