65/35 and ALL-in Situations in Cash
This is relating to cash games, in tournaments this is probably an auto all-in.
Do I go in all-in on flops where I have the nuts but I'm risking a huge chunk of my stack/bank roll if I get drawn out on? I know I'm way ahead but I'm in danger of being drawn out on. For example the other day I flopped the nut straight 5-6 on a board where there was two hearts. One guy re raised me with his straight flush draw and the third person re raised with his lower straight. Ship it here or peel a card off to be safe? I'm not talking about situations where the person will fold, I know to an almost certainty they will call an all-in. Another example is when you flop a nut flush and someone is willing to go all in with a set. Is it best to put the money in on the flop or peel a card off to see if its safe? I run into this situation at the casino about once a week when I'm fairly deep, 200+ big blinds against someone with like 150BB's. Should I be just shipping it and if I lose consider it variance in poker? Thanks for any advice |

You should be taking whatever edge you have, in this case we're talking math, and applying it wherever you can.

The goal of poker is to get your money in as a favorite, that is the best you can do....make the right decision. So yeah obv if you can get it all in on the flop, so do. If you are playing way too high for your bankroll well....thats your own choice, its not recommended as surely you will busto.

If you know you are a favorite to win and will get a caller, particularly if you are 65/35 to win, you should be willing to shove in your entire stack. If you aren't then you should move to smaller stakes or wait until you have a larger bankroll.
Waiting to see if it's "safe" gives your opponent the opportunity to fold if their draw doesn't hit, pick up additional outs, or see yet another card even cheaper because you'll feel you can't push too hard on the turn. I never walk into a casino or log into an online site unless I'm prepared to lose 4 max buyins and still have plenty of bankroll left for the next day. After that I start going on tilt and may be doing something wrong anyway so it's time for a break. |
